Encoding 4 hours of VHS

I've had issues viewing a movie file after encoding a 4-hour VHS tape thru my TV tuner card. The problem is that Power Director 5 will not play the entire file, as most of it appears to be missing in the middle. However, when I play this movie in Windows Media Player, it'll play the whole thing. Has anyone else had this issue?

It should be noted that I uninstalled all burning software and reinstalled only Cyberlink. I also attempted to reencode my VHS tape without any items running in my system tray... to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Merry X-mas to all!!!

Hi Joe,
4 hours of footage...from VHS...wow? You must have just walked away after pressing the Record button!
What was the format and file size again.....?
Did the file play in PowerDVD?
It fitted into PowerDirector's time-line?
What again were you attempting to do?
Render it to what?
What format did you capture the low res footage in?
What was the version of PD5? Look in Help/About
What about lip sync?
What about frame dropping?

Hello and thank you for replying to my post.

I have a 5.4 GB MPEG-2 file encoded under DVD HQ (4 hours) that I want to put on a timeline to splice up in half (onto 2 DVDs). It's a personal video of my family from America's Funniest Home Videos from 1996, and they got a lot of footage.
When I put it on the timeline in Power Director Premium 5, it shows 4 hours, but only 1 hour of viewable video, where it seems like there is a big chunk taken out of the middle. So the timeline shows 4 hours, but only the first hour is viewable.

I purposely set encoding time to 4 hours, because I know I have a lot of footage. I've also tried encoding in 2 sessions of 2 hours to no avail. When I opened it up in PowerDVD, it only played 1 hour of total video. I then opened it up in Windows Media Player and it played the entire 4 hours. The sound/video for what plays in PDP5 and PDVD are right on the mark.

I'd hate to resort to using other software to try this process, since I've spent over $150 on this software. I'm hoping that there is a fix somehow. Maybe I should try encoding using Divx? I do have the updated divx software on my computer, so if that is a suggestion I'll try that.

Again, thank you for your reply, as this will not only be beneficial to me but to others who may be experiencing the same as me.

Hi Joe,
I cant duplicate the 4 hour capture - well I could but don't want to.

I've placed a number of DVD HQ files into the timeline. Here are my results:
DVD HQ 16:9 recording 35 minutes in length = 2.03GB
8 times the "clip" was placed in the time-line to take it past 4hours 40 minutes. The clip played at all sections.
This item was recorded and rendered from DV Tape (a lot higher quality than VHS).

Joe,
I think you have got a corrupted file during the capture process - the GB file size does not correlate to the GB's for a 4 hour file and is closer to the one hour file size capture.

I suggest you capture again and monitor the capture - and pause the process to ensure multiple files are captured.

Dafydd
