Create 1440x1080 MPG from AVCHD

I'm using a Canon HF10 camera recording in 1440x1080 producing high quality AVCHD files.

PD7 handles these files very well indeed. For rather complicated reasons - which I won't go into here - I'd like to export to MPEG2, with the same 1440x1080. DVD HQ does not do this, and if I choose "Profile type = All", I can choose "HD (MPEG2) 1080I". However the output from this is 1920x1080, which distorts the original image by extending the horizontal dimension.

Is there a way in which I can get PD7 Ultra to create MPEG2 in 1440x1080?

Hi Jim,

try BD 1440x1080 profile. It creates an mpeg2 programme stream file at about 24mbps

Thanks pjc,
I must be missing something but I can't find BD 1440X1080.
I have 5 Produce options:
-Create a File
-Create a Streaming File
-Write Back to DV tape
-Write Back to HDV tape
-Create an HDD transport file
-Upload to Youtube
The closest I can find is in "Write back to HDV tape" where an option says it produces an MPG file with the correct resolution, but with a "tpd" extension. Is this the one you mean?

Hi Jim,

Maybe I’m misunderstanding something here too, so I just did a little test to confirm.

Have you tried to...
Click on Produce > Create A File > Next > MPEG2 > Then click on the “little filmstrip with the plus sign” icon/tab > Video > Resolution (dropdown menu).
That is where I see the 1440x1080 option.

EDIT: Whoops, double posted. Sorry pjc.

Thanks. I didn't have a BD 1440 profile, but was able to create one from the "New" button. I should have noticed it but previously I've only exported to WMV - where there isn't such a button.
