Producing Titles: Takes a long time
[Post New]
Hi,

I am able to create DVDs without a problem with Power Director 6. But I have a couple of questions.

When I start the "Create Disc" process, a screen comes up that says, "Producing Titles" and the progress bar slowly increases from 1% on up to where the program finally burns the disc.

What is going on during this "Producing Titles" section? What does it mean?

And why does it take so long? I've got a DVD that's about 50 minutes long in duration and this "Producing Titles" section is taking about 2 hours!

Is there some way around this? It's a drag to have to wait so long just to burn a disc.

By the way, I don't get an error message. The process does slowly continue until it starts to burn.

Thanks,

- Andy

producing titles is the process of converting your video footage in the project to DVD compliant mepg2 format before it burns to DVD. You may even be using mpeg2 footage in your project but if the parameters are not DVD compliant then it will render them all. DVD specifications are pretty fussy.

The time to do this depends very much on your processor.

Thanks pjc.

I had wondered about the processor issue but quickly dismissed it because I have a very fast machine.

My tech guy who built my PC from scratch is the systems administrator for a large company. Runs all their servers, PCs, etc. He says that my machine is actually faster than the one he uses at work.

Perhaps there is a way that my processor can be adjusted so that it can do the work more quickly.

Another question. On a very fast computer, how long should it take (approx) to produce titles for mpeg2 and burn a DVD that is 1 hour in length?

Thanks,

- Andy

Quad core 2.8GHz (Q9550)

1hr of mpeg2 to DVD HQ (no SVRT) 25mins CPU at 30%
1hr of AVCHD 1080i to DVD HQ 40 mins CPU at 75%
1hr of DV to DVD HQ 25 mins CPU at 55%

I aborted rendering at about 20% each time after the "time remaining" was consistent but should be a pretty accurate estimate for the 1 hr of rendering.
