Hi everyone - I will be receiving a new Lumix GH5 in the next few days and wonder if anyone with this camera is having issues with PD15 and the camera's video files. My understanding is that people using different video editors are experiencing some issues reading the 24p and 30p 4K files (not 60p). I did a search but did not find anything here. Thanks for any help / advice on this issue. Regards, Brian

Thanks Pepsiman - I think, however, that people are experiencing issues with MP4 files as well. Regards, Brian

Hi bsalisbury -

I've tested a batch of GH5 sample clips from 4K Shooters but they were pre-release. At the time, it seems there was an issue with incomplete codecs.

Some MP4 files would not display in PDR15 (just black) - UHD 24p & 30p - the same files wouldn't display correctly in DaVinci Resolve either. Apparently there was the same issue with FCP & Premiere Pro.

Possibly those issues have been resolved in the final release version.

PDR15 had no issues withthe 60p & 180p clips I tested... nor this sample MOV file.

Most of the clips I tested were shot in "Vlog-L" and came up really well with specific LUTs applied in CDR & Resolve (i.e. the clips that didn't display black).

Cheers - Tony

Thanks for this information Tony - I think Panasonic is getting some grief for the issues their GH5 files are causing in different editors. I guess for the time being (well, tomorrow morning when the camera arrives) I will shoot in 60p 4K although that is not my preference. Regards, Brian

Just don't use 10bit video, other formats should work fine.wink ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's nailed it the King!

In my tests, the three clips that didn't display properly are all 10-bit. All the rest I checked are 8-bit.

Cheers - Tony

Well - I am (un) happy to confirm that 10 bit GH5 files are indeed unplayable in PD15 after taking receipt of my camera today, although it really does take great images and video. However, it will be nice when Panasonic addresses the codec issues that preclude 10 bit files from playing. That said, I can view the same files using VLC but that is about it. Vegas Pro 14 also does not play 10 bit files.

As an aside, I have been away from using Power Director for about a year or so but the strength, knowledge and diversity of the online Power Director community is unmatched so here I am!

31.12.2019 ..... GH5 4k 10-bit videos still not working in PD17 ... is there some way how to convert them to diggestable format - but still 4k? I mean in virtual dub or something like that?

I have tried also lightworks as well, but this went wrong anyway, this editor reads it but has problem wit audio sync although in edit mode is the sync ok.

The clip is 10bit H.264, PowerDirector does not support it so far.
You need to use HandBrake or similar tool to convert it to 8bit H.264 or 10bit H.265 first. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PD18 supports 10-bit (4:2:2) .MP4 clips in HEVC (H.265) format, as well as AVC/H.264 .MOV files using Apple ProRes, as shown in the current specs.

To edit the clip in PD17, you only need to convert it from HDR (10-bit 4:2:2) to standard range (8-bit 4:2:0). Bit depth is unrelated to pixel size, so you would keep the full video resolution and only drop the extended dynamic range. Handbrake and VirtualDub2 are good choices for converting.

Purchased PD19 last week.

Issue still un-resolved.
Still not able to read 4k 10-bit 422 files (LPCM or MOV) from my GH5 into PD19 or Colordirector 8.

Very dissappointed!

Especially when you look into the PD 19 feature table where Cyberlink boldly claims
- import of 10-bit and 10-bit HDR files
- Apple mov ProRes 10-bit 422

WIll purchase something that works (Adobe or Edius).

Have been waiting since PD 17 for a fully functioning SW.
