Cannot Combine Clips

The User Manual (PDR12 Tutorial Book ENU.pdf) says I can combine Split video segments back into one clip by selecting all of the split video segments, right click on one of them, and then select Combine. I do this but the Combine option in the drop down menu is grayed out - cannot combine the clips. What am I missing?

Using PowerDirector 12 on a Windows10 machine. PowerDirector12

Have you split a single video into multiple segments? If so then that function allows you to re-combine them. It isn't meant to and doesn't combine multiple clips that were imported separately. That is done when you render the timeline and you produce a single file.

p.s. - I can only think of 1 benefit to using this function rather than the keystroke CTRL+Z (undo) and that is the fact that you can use it long after you have split a clip whereas undo simpy refers to your last action and therefore would only be useful if you immediately change your mind.

Thanks for your quick reply! Actually, I split a single video into multiple clips - did this to remove some of the created clips of unwanted material (Using the "Remove and Move all Timeline Clips After Removed Clip"). PowerDirector12

I cannot find that information in the PD12 manual. Could you tell us what page it says that.

Yes, unfortunately as soon as you do that, the remaining parts can no longer be re-combined but must be rendered to combine them. I find the function of little or no use smile.

The tutorial book comes from:

http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/events/enu/2013/Q3/pdr12-book/index2.jsp

Paragraph 2-2-7 "Combining Clips"

The above link you referred me to might have answered my question. It states that the Combine command only works if no changes were made to the clips. I actually removed some of the clips that I created, so guess Combine will not work in that case. Is that correct? PowerDirector12

ALN - Thank you for the information. The link you supplied is for the PDR12 Tutorial book not the PD12 User Guide which is located here: http://download.cyberlink.com/ftpdload/user_guide/powerdirector/12/PowerDirector_UG_ENU.pdf . The information in these two different books can be different.
