PowerDVD 16: Non-decoded high-definition audio setting is not available in TV mode

Hello everyone, new user here.

I just recently bought PowerDVD 16 Ultra because I found out that with this I can finally get rid of my external blu-ray player. So I am not expert user yet, but I have found out that in order to enjoy the best possible sound available from blu-ray discs (as I use AV-receiver that supports HD-Master Audio and the rest of blu-ray HD-audio sound systems), I should use the third option in PowerDVD: "Non-decoded high-definition audio to external device" (or something like that, I am not at home right now so I can't check). All three sound options are available in PC mode, but when I am watching a movie, I don't want to use that as I want to watch movies in full screen obviously, so I use TV mode instead. But for some reason, that third audio option is not available in TV mode! When I switch back to PC mode, the option is there again. And although I select that option in PC mode, it defaults to first audio mode (PCM Audio?) when I switch to TV mode because that third option is not there.

Does anyone else have this problem and how can I fix it please? I really want to enjoy the best possible audio when watching blu-ray movies!

Hi Paladine,

As you see on the attached picture, all the three functions are avaliable on TV mode.

May be you should update or re-install powerDVD without keeping the personal settings.

Greetings

Hicham

Thanks for assistance, but it seemed like my graphics card was to blame here. I found out that Nvidia GT210 did not support HD-sound passthrough via HDMI, but PowerDVD oddly showed that "Non-decoded high-definition audio" every now and then regardless, at least in PC-mode. Now that I have a new graphics card that actually support that feature, I can see this option on PowerDVD TV-mode as well.

All right, now that I do have a new graphics card that actually supports non-decoded high-definition audio through HDMI, I have noticed another problem, which might be a bug or if it is a feature, it is a bit annoying one.

So, PowerDVD 16 Ultra actually remembers the Audio settings, BUT it does not seem to actually use them after you restart the software, not until you re-select that setting again.

Here's an example: I started PowerDVD, and noticed from sound settings that "non-decoded high-definition audio" was still selected BUT when I seleced Dolby Atmos track from blu-ray menu, and started watching, I noticed that PowerDVD was outputting 2-channel LPCM. My AV-receiver agreed with PowerDVD's info screen, so it was getting stereo track only. So, I switched HDMI Audio setting in PowerDVD away from that third option "high-definition.." and selected "non decoded Dolby Digital/DTS" instead, and noticed that now PowerDVD was outputting multi-channel audio, and when I then selected that "non-decoded high-definition audio" again, now that worked correctly as well, as my receiver noticed Dolby Atmos correctly.

Now it seems that I need to do that every time, so PowerDVD does not seem to actually apply that audio setting if I close PowerDVD between watching sessions, but I need to select something else on audio settings first, and then re-select that third option and after that it works correctly as long as I keep watching that blu-ray.

I wonder if there was some way for PowerDVD to actually apply that HDMI audio setting automatically when it starts playing new blu-ray disc without me having to re-select that setting every time?

I have the exact same problem very annoying to have to always select non decoded high definition at the start of a movie all the time (though I must say the audio is sublime when functioning as it should puts my pioneer BDP-450 to shame)

I have to go through all 3 settings to get it in non decoded high definition audio .

I have the same issue. Non decoded audio is selected but PowerDVD is sending out PCM according to output information display and processor display settings. Choosing PCM output then DTS and then non decoded will then send out DTS-MA or TrueHD streams. Happens with bluray and DVD when replaying same disc or a new disc.

You're lucky! I cannot get anything but 2.1 lpcm with PowerDVD 16. I've been trying for over a month to get any assistance possible, however, the aswer is always the same, it works. No it does not. If I play a file with VLC or windows 10 player, DTS HD Master everytime. But not with PowerDVD. Hicham is trying to help me but I haven't heard back from him in 3 or 4 days. Their technical customer support is not any help at all.
