m2ts and VOB subtitle support please

Good day,

I originally purchase Cyberlink PowerDVD back in version 10 and was please overall, but found the lack of subtitle support for VOB and m2ts files to be a bit disappointing. 6 versions later and support still hasn't been added. During this time VLC player, a free piece of software, has added support for PGS subtitles within m2ts having already supported subtitles in VOB files (I'm not sure what the exact extension is i'm using in my VOB files). For all the bells and whistles added to PowerDVD this is a VERY basic issue that continues to be overlooked and is the only reason why I have not been willing to pay to upgrade to a later version.

As I don't know if there is a feedback page or a suggestion page anywhere on the site, please accept my apologies if this is the incorrect place to make a suggestion.

Thank you for reading.

Hi daveydaver34,

I can not reproduce this on my side. I've imported a subtitle with a m2ts and every thing works well.

Can you share the file in question with us?

Thank you

I've tried to attach an example, but it doesn't seem to be working. The best I can offer is this print screen of everything greyed out.

Hi daveydaver34,

Are you sure your software is up to date? Click on the "PowerDVD" writting on the top on the left side, when you launch the software.

On the other hand, I would like you to share this file if it is possible. You can use dropbox or onedrive.

Greetings

I'm running version 12.0.7107.58, which is the most up to date version of PowerDVD 12. Reinstalling it didn't help. I've downloaded a free trial of PowerDVD 16 before and experienced the same problem.

I'll have a go with One Drive when I next get a chance on a Windows 10 PC.

Hi daveydaver34,

Now you can see how it looks on my side.

May be you should re-install powerDVD without keeping the personal settings.

Greetings

Hicham

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately i've just tried reinstalling PowerDVD 12 this time choosing not to keep my personal settings and it has made no difference.

Your pictures suggest that you are using a newer version of PowerDVD given that the interface appears black rather than grey. I have previously installed a trial for PowerDVD 16 and no subtitles appearred on there either at the time. I'll have to borrow someone elses computer to install another trial in order to give it another go.

While your pictures are not greyed out like mine are you still appear to only have 'Import' and 'Settings' in your list and no actual subtitles to choose between. In VLC player they simply appear in the list without having to import or adjust settings. I would just use VLC player however VLC player does not support all of the surround sound formats PowerDVD does so at the moment i'm either having to scarifice surround quality for subtitles or vice versa.

I've now also checked a free trial of PowerDVD 16. Although 'Primary Subtitles' is no longer greyed out the only options are 'Import' and 'Settings'. Neither of which are useful for my problem. The subitiles should just be listed as they are on a disc. As previuosly stated, other media players do not have this problem. I believe that all versions to date, including 16, simply do not support the subtitle format despite the fact that the format is now 10 years old. This brings me round full circle to my original point which was that Cyberlink continue to over look a very basic problem. A problem that has put me off buying not 1 but 6 upgraded versions since my original purchase of version 10 several years ago. I would therefore like to politely suggest this be amended in future updates.

I've just downloaded the free trial for PowerDVD17 having read the improved subitiles support list. However I am again having the same issue. No subitiles detected. The ony option as always is 'Import'. An option I can only assume exists if for some reason you save subtitles in a seperate file from the rest of the video. 7 versions since I purchased PowerDVD10 and this has been overlooked AGAIN! This is getting beyond a joke now.

The most recent version of Kodi now supports PGS/SUP subtitiles and full 7.1 surround and is free unlike Cyberlink PowerDVD. For the foreseeable future i'll be using them instead. Subtitle support may not be as flashy as VR, etc. but subtitles are a feature I actually need and after 10 years of being ignored by Cyberlink I've had enough.

Many thanks

Sorry if I came across a bit harsh. Overall I like PowerDVD.

I use Pavtube and tsMuxer software. The subtitles in the m2ts files show as PGS, which should be supported according to the PowerDVD specifications. However when Demuxed the file type comes up as SUP. Unfortunately tsMuxer doesn't support VOB files in order for me to try demuxing them to find out the exact subtitle format. According to the internet the most likely candidates are VobSub, Sub or PES.

The examples can still be found here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!ArvEEXeVXz2ri3EODayqyodgvWSY
