Î am new (one week) to PowerDirector and running into a problem already.

Coming from AP I never encountered this problem.

When I import 1080p clips I get this message:

"PowerDirector detected that you are importing high definition video...."

Why do I have to enable shadow files?

You don't have to, the question was optional on the generation. For HD footage, PD allows the generation of shadow files, or so called proxy files. They are a lower resolution image of the HD source footage to enhance timeline playback. If one needs them or not depends on the real quality specifics of the source video, the computer capability, the amount of timeline video enhance one wants to apply and playback quality.

You can always turn them on or off in pref to fit your needs.

When one is using shadow files it's generally best to let them fully generate, green film strip icon in the corner of clip in media library vs orange, prior to doing any significant editing.

Using shadow files does not affect end produce quality.

Thanks for the response.

So, why is this message still in this version if it does not matter?

It makes it very confusing.

I can use shadow files or not and both have the same quality when producing the file?

It does matter, if you say yes to generate shadow files or have the option checked in pref, PD will generate shadow files. If not selected, PD will not generate them.

Correct, it only affects the display resolution on the timeline for editing ease.
