DVD edges being cut off issue

On my TV have std, wide, Zoom, Movie under aspect ratios. Produced DVD 4.7G Wide with SmartFit. Std cuts a tiny mount from T-B, rest trim enough on left and right to cut off some title starts and ends, maybe 3% of L-R. So no choice does not have a problem.

When I play from PC to TV with 1080x1920 WMV it loses nothing but on some players has black borders all around and wonderful quality.

Why when same project produced as DVD wide (720x480) is this cutoff going on even when there is balc screen unused?

Thanks

Also when I play VOB files on PC, there is no problem and my screen is 23" 16-9. At full or partial screen no edges are lost.

Thanks

Basic over scan common on many TV's depending on signal input. PC monitor has no over scan and old crt's under scan so you could see everything. That is why there is a tv safe zone toggle when previewing and editing content and DVD menus in PD. The zone in PD is rather conservative and it is often less than that but will vary from TV to TV.

Its grayed out on my prject, can not select TV Safe zone. Also being the project is done,is there a way to fix it now? If the Zone shows the first letter of title is outside safe zone, is there a way to correct it or do I have to go back thru the 1 hour+ of video and shrink each image down so they have black borders?

Not sure what solution is.

Thanks

Post a picture, the only time I've seen it greyed out is if you have nothing in the timeline.

You simply need to go through and move the titles to be inside the safe zone to be conservative or establish what the safe zone is for your playback system. Just keep in mind, if viewed on a different playback system the playback zone can be a little different but I've never seen any larger than the estimate inside PD, hence my description of conservative.

Hi Jeff, there was a video in timeline, BUT unless you click on it, it was grayed out, after clicking it then made menu active and I could select TV Safe, and see it is much smaller. I have output the movie a WMV 1080 on Vimeo and from a laptop to TV and both look good, border wise.

I have two problems, first maybe 75 titles in movie (PD ones), 2nd I have titles in images, such as old newspaper front pages. So solution would be to create a smaller video to write to DVD such as 680x450, or guess maybe take the 1080 down to 1860x1040, in effect have a black border of 40ish pixels around outside. Am guessing I am not the first to be in this fix.

Anyway to add black border to fix issue for DVD?

Any suggestions?

Yes, something needs to be selected in timeline, like a pic or video.

You can always put a colorboard, relevant partial opacity pic in background and rescale produced video down some to fit what you'd like near the safe zone.

Thanks JL,

This YouTube shows how to do that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igqcwUblW_c

Also saw something on using PIP. The problem I am having likely thousands of people have had, so hope there is an easy solution in PD13. I have maybe 500 separate clips in my movie, do not want to do 500 operations and do not want to lose original source files by creating just one video out of theproject, then adding border.

Is there a way to do what you talk about above for all the clips in the up to 15 tracks I have in one step?

Worst case guess can take the 1080 WMV output as one clip then put border around that, output another WMV then output that outside DVD maker as been getting much better quality doing that than PD13 native to DVD, even though that makes no sense.

Still want to use PD13 and get a good usable DVD out of the project.

Thanks, Darp

Okay, well think have good solution. I did output whole movie as WMV 10mbps 1080 30i and put that in project and reduced display of that single clip and produced another WMV. Output is good, used DVD Styler to produce a DVD and it fits my TV almost perfect, the small black edges do not really show, very acceptable solution. Did it 1/3rd past TV safe box and is maybe 15 pixels of black left and right on TV, just did in manually.

The DVD output from PD13 qaulity problem though is still huge, unfortunatly although DVDStyler outs very superior quality to PD13 to disc, it put an error in at 50 mins, and also has inferior DVD menu system to PD, so still up the creek without a paddle a week later. Sent mesg to support.

Well on 2nd try DVD styler did not have an error.

But better news: support mentioned selcting H264, so I went to Produce and selcted AVC H264 1080, Then selected Created Disk and there are no cloices after 720x480 is selected, BUT first time in 4 tries PD13 output high quality to disc, just like other DVD programs, the alaising went way??Does not make sense to me, the 2 menus should be separate, but that is what happened.
