What bitrate is the best: quality vs optimal size

Hi,

I produced a home video about 40 mins and received a file size more than 7GB!

Source:

Video: AVC/ 1920x1080 / Bitrate mode: variable, 23.9 Mbps, max bit rate 25.0 Mbps/ Frame rate 59.940 fps/ Progressive

Audio: AC-3 / 256 Kbps, constant / 2 channels

container TS.

After producing:

Video: AVC/ 1920x1080/ Bitrate mode: ?, Bitrate 24.5 Mbps/ Frame rate constant, 60.000 fps / progressive /

Audio: AC-3/ 256 Kbps/ 2 channels

container MKV (I need this for many soundtracks and subtitles).

For producing I used "standard kit" - MKV/ 1920x1080/ 60p/ 28Mbps. I am not sure that I need such high bitrate. My video player said, "this file can be played not properly". I don't know what it didn't like but sure this file is not very compatible.

My question is: how to reduce file size with minimal loss in quality?

Thank you in advance.

Have you tried to customize the produce/production and change the bitrate - lower it down a little and then review your results?

some of the players and TVs do not support 60p input.

my Samsung UN46EH5300FXZA displays 60i Blu-ray but will not play and display 60p on an USB stick.

lower it to 30p 17 Mb/sec.

happy happy joy joy

I didn't, but I can customize production. I just have no idea about parameters.

Actually, there are not a lot of parameters to change:

1 Resolution - I think no need to change.

2 Frame rate - I'd like to keep it 60 too.

3 Frame type - also I'd like to keep it progressive.

4 Profile type - No idea, what is it exactly.

5. Average bitrate - It seems I can change only here.

Well, maybe someone has an experience about this bitrate because I can experiment with this parameter all my life.

I want to keep 60p and my player plays other my videos with same parameters, but shortest, without any problems or warnings.

Maybe I need to do additionally process in other programs? Since this program cannot put several audio tracks and subtitles in one MKV container, I additionally assemble MKV in MKVtools.
