Is there any way to create a template for a movie? Here is my need:

-I make several recordings a week of a class.

I would like the same custom title and same transitions, and same ending credits for all of the movies. I hope I don't have to create it all from scratch each time. Any suggestions? I am really new so I would appreciate as much detail as possible.

Thanks you very much!

Just my take on this.... I can see that you could do 2 out of the 3 things you want to do.

First off, what you are calling a 'template' I think what you want in PD is called a Title Page. So you would create a Title Page that would have your 'Custom' title on it. THen that gets inserting into your project. If you change that title for each class - you would need to make a new title page with the new 'wording' on it each time. But if the title was the same for every class, then a saved Title Page created and saved - could be re-used for any project you create. But it would need to be inserted into each project that you create.

The ending credits though - if they are the same - then (like described above) a Title Page created could be re-used for each different project/class you create.

The transitions, I do not know how you could automatically put those into different projects. I think you might have to insert those on a project by project basis.

I thought there was some way to insert all of the same transition between all clips though at one time. You might be able to look into that possibility. But that would still need to be done to each project/video you create.

Hi TomLas1234 -

The simplest way to do what you're after is to:

  1. Prepare your opening sequence and save it as a separate project, named (say) "Open". Pack the project!

  2. Prepare your closing sequence and save it as a separate project, named (say) "Close". Pack the project!

  3. Edit the week's clips & photos (minus the intro & outro)

  4. Use File > Insert Project to add your opening & closing sequences

""

That's not a template, as such, but it does allow you to re-use common elements. That's what we do with our PDtoots tutorials. There's a screenshot of one such tutorial attached, showing where the open & close projects have been inserted.

As Longedge & CS have indicated, there are other ways using file substitution etc but they are dependent on consistent durations, aspect ratios etc. Without that, you might create sync issues.

Cheers - Tony
