Hi everyone.

I have 4 reasonably cheap HD cameras that I am using to record live band footage. Often the lighting can be difficult can be a challenge. I pretty much just set them up in auto mode, and he record.

Here is a clip. As you can see, where the lighting is bright, the faces disappear. The cameras are Panasonic HV-V270. there are some Manila settings available to change. Any suggestions on improvements I can make to the settings.

Thanks

The nightclub lighting here does present challenges to any camera. There are settings that can eliminates the problem that you are seeing. Try these settings on your next video on one camera to confirm it gives you the right results.

In your first video (bright static lighting) you can set the camcorder to the Scene Mode: Spotlight to avoid the burned out face in this situation. See page 40 and 47 in your user manual.

In the video with dynamic color lighting you need to set the camera to manual mode and set the white balance to incandescent lighting. See page 48 and 49.

You can make note and try these settings. The faces won’t be washed out and the color will be more consistent as monitored on the lcd monitor view screen.

Let us know if this helps. Happy shooting. .laughing

That's great advice. I'll have a chance to try it on the weekend. What are your thoughts around autofocus? Sony AX53 camera / 4 Panasonic HC-V270 cameras / PD14 / I7-6700 /

Autofocus is required if you zoom in on a face while shooting and not required if you shoot a background at a distance.

Tomasc, I tried those setting and it makes a big difference. I hope you don't mind if I ask one more question.

in some videos I have been. getting banding under LED stage lighting. I record at 1080/60 fps with the default shutter speed. The camera does not have the option of running 50fps. The power in Australia is 50htz, so I have heard that this may cause the problems.

Here is a clip that shows the issue. I'd appreciate any tips you might have.

The Panasonic HC-V270 record at pal frame rates of 50p and 50i not 60. That is a plus for you. See page 187 in the user manual.

There is not much you can do with the banding you see with LED stage lighting. Changing the shutter speed lower may help. See this discussion: http://www.designstudioschool.com/led-stage-lighting-flickers-video-t46928.html . The banding seem to be very minimal in the YT video. It looks good.

As the show lighting flickers different colors and sometimes may even go dark your camera will struggle to maintain focus. At least one camera should have focus locked. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
