Hi folks,

I am new here and new to video editing.

I am getting an error when trying to import .MOV files.

I have search this forum for answers. I have re-installed PD14 twice now and it still is not importing .MOV files. I have also tried to rename the file with a .MP4 extension but that fails to import in the same manner.

The .MOV files are from a Fuji FinePix XP70. I have no trouble importing MTS files from my Sony HandiCam.

Attached are three files:

1) the error as I see it

2) the PD14 version info

3) the media info for the offending file

Please let me know if more info is needed. I am really hoping you guys can help. Thanks.

Regards,

Tod

Ok so I tried a couple of things and the MOV files are now imported and working just not sure what fixed the issue.

By reading another post I looked at the video codec type on my media file which is AVC1 and then I checked the DxDiag file to see that I didn't have that particular codec - this coming from a novice so I am not sure if it is an issue or not. So I downloaded and instaled the standard version of K-Lite Codec Pack. This advise from the other post I read.

second thing I did was deleted the project, moved all the media files to a different folder and started a new project by importing all files in the new folder.

End result is it all appears to be working now.

I have the XP70 also so I know what you are going through. I do NOT know how you got them to work but... whatever.

I've taken to converting the .MOV files to .AVI files. Then they import fine.

All in all, if it's working for you now... all is good eh?

Have you installed Apple's QuickTime? Note the fact that is a huge security risk.
Personally I am avoiding buying any video product that uses .mov container because the poor performance under Windows OS (crippled by design).

Thanks for replying SoNic67 and CS2014.

I neglected to say earlier that I did have Quicktime installed and running. All the MOV files play fine on the Quicktime player. They play fine on the Windows Media Player as well.

I'll look into converting to a differnt format so that Quicktime is not necessary. Thanks for the warning on that ...

posted as resolved. should have entered this reply first though ...
