Hi,

I am not sure what I am doing wrong or not doing at all, but I want to transfer the files from my Sony AX53 to my Win 10 32 PC.

Sony recomend their Play Memories software which I have done and it gives me the primary .MP4 files plus small .modd and .moff files.

I can get the MP4's into the Library okay but it stops everytime I try to get them from the Library to the timeline whether it be 1 file or the lot.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks

oz

I have PD13 13.0.2123.0

Hi ozstar,
1. Please provide a 5 second sample.
Point and record 5 seconds with your camera.
Upload that mp4 file as an attachment.
Members can then test out and see if they replicate the issue.
2. Please also provide a screenshot of your Edit workspace with your project files displaying.
See guide Part B.

G'day ozstar -

I can see no reason why the clips directly from the camera wouldn't import and be editable in PDR13. Clips from the AX33 & AX100 are fine & they're similar in format/wrapper.

Have you tried bypassing the "recommended" software and using the clips directly?

As suggested above, a sample clip directly from the camera would be useful.

Cheers - Tony

Hi,

Firstly many thanks for the quick response.

This is not the orig files I was trying to import to the timeline but I get the same stuck response with this.

The Win10 blue round cursor keeps rolling and nothing happens. One can see the yellow stops a few seconds in.

I get the Win10 Close Program or wait panel.

Thanks.

ozstar,

The files you provided work just fine on my system.

Your C0114.MP4.modd file can be opened with Internet Explorer on Windows or any XML compatible editor. (It is a XML file with a weird extension).

The MP4, looks like you filmed your monitor (Maybe a clock) with your camera. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Hi ozstar -

The clip you attached imports and plays back fine in PDR13 (here) - both in the media library & timeline.

Is that clip straight off the camera, or has it been processed through "Play Memories"?

HI,

Yes it is an Elvis clock on the wall !

Yes this clip came through PM because when I attach the cam to the PC via the USB, PM automatically comes up on the Cam and the PC. I chose the option to transfer the files to the PC.

I have just seen the actual cam drive (G:\ in this case) and I found the file in /PRIVATE/M4ROOT/CLIP/

I dragged it to the library then to the Timeline but still got no reaction. The small "rendering' bar was on 0% and stayed there. The program finally goes into Not Responding.

Maybe something with my project setup or?

In Explorer Properties it shows ..
Frame 3840 W 2160 H
Data Rate 56578
Total Data 58145
Frame 25

In Properties on the Timeline
H.264AVC
Bit 57.02
Res 3840x2160
Frame 25

EDIT: Just dragged it to the Library again and it does play in the Preview there but still no go on the Timelline.

The properties you've posted are consistent with the "processed" (via Play Memories) clip you attached. MediaInfo report attached. Maybe it wasn't processed at all.

Still - it's a puzzlement. I wonder why the clips will import OK, but you can't get them to the timeline?

Sorry - no ideas.

Thanks Tony. Got me beat too!

Not too sure what to do now.

I tested some previous projects from my Pano GS400 and everything seems to work there okay, so it must somehow be something betwixt the cam and the program.

While I was witing this decided to film using the Dual cam feature where it alos gives a smaller res copy of the 4K.

The 4K once again played in the library but stuck after rendering a fwe secs in the Timeline but the smaller version 1280x720 with 2.8 bitrate worked correctly.

So now it is only the larger res which does not work with me.

Hopefully a little clearer now.

oz

This is a complete stab in the dark... it's not the Deluxe version, is it? That doesn't support 4K... but then - how would it import?

Also - there is an update for PDR13 (3516) http://www.cyberlink.com/support/powerdirector-ultra/patches_en_GB.html

Hi ozstar,
Thank you for providing the information.
I see the mp4 has been imported by others and Carl has noted the xml nature of the .modd text file. Ok, that clears out the sample file and the results are as I suspected.

My attention now turns to the more important attachment, the image and the "blue circle".
Observation:
1. You have Shadow Files generated, successfully.
2. The Blue Circle is where the computer is struggling to work with the media files, (something like your hard drive data transfer rate).

REQUEST: Please attach a diagnostic file of your computer. Part B in the guide. Please present the information as requested in the guide.

Where is your media source material located on your computer?
Are you pulling the data from an SD card or have you moved the data using Cut'n'paste and placed them on your hard drive?
What is the local address of the media files?

Looks to me you have a problem with your computer and where the data is stored.

Just a guess.
Dafydd

Hi again,

Okay, here is the DxDiag file zipped.

1. The media was transferred from the AX53 via PlayMemories to a folder on L:\ drive (ext 2TB) then dragged to Library where it works, but doesn't on timeline.

2. The media was dragged directly from the AX53 card to the Library where it works, but also doesn't on timeline.

The smaller 1280x720 with 2.8 bitrate does work properly on Library and Timeline.

Appreciate the help, many thanks.

I am thinking of upgrading to 64 bit Win10, would that help ?

Hi ozstar,

Thank you for the diagnostic data.
Looks to me you have overstretched your computer somewhat with the tasks you're asking of it. Time to upgrade to a bigger/faster more higher powered unit and a 64bit OS to edit video with.
I would not edit HD video with what you have.
Just my opinion.
Dafydd

I figured this was the problem.

Any suggestions of a good mobo and graphics card without having me to sell the house to buy them?

Thanks for the time.

PS: Thanks Tony.. got the update !

Hi again,

I have a couple of other Win10 x 64 boxes assigned to other tasks which may do the job.

To see if this one worked, I downloaded the PD 14 trial and tried to load the same clip as before however they don't allow this in the trial version.

How can I try my other boxes without having to reinstall my 13 everytime?

I have plenty of drives too which I would attach too.

I figured the 14 trial would be the best way.

I have attached the dxdiag for this unit.

Thanks

Hi,

I have just been offered this box.. Would it be okay for 4K editing?

I have extra drives for it and I would upgrade to Win 10

Thanks,

I do expect other users to respond. The system above may work for 4k editing but then you may want to add a video card such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Installed-Backplate-Graphics-04G-P4-3966-KR/dp/B00UOYQ5LA to help with the preview and producing.

See this link: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/49202.page#258361 . There are users that may think trying to save a few dollars is not the way to go.

Thank you for your help and the links.

Yes I was thinking of a better card the 950 or 960 if the installed one was not good enough.

I see these here at around $250 in Oz.

Is one better than the other or are they the same card ?

4GB is preferred over a 2GB of memory on the gtx960 if you display and work with 4k. See this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX_mW36BDKs .

Thanks again..

all very helpful as this 4K world is a bit of a challenge at first.

I was wondering if one could have 2 monitors like..

1. Regular primary monitor for programs etc

2. A better 4k one, as Preview monitor
