Problems loading PDR13 project - Fixed

I have a PDR13 saved as a packed project.

When loading into PDR14 I get 23 Cannot Load fix.png errors. (See attached LoadErr img)

Once the project loads all video, pics and sound files are there.

When I playback the timeline I get a "Media Source Error", Error Type = Video Cut, Material Type = Template (See PlayErr img attached). I click "Save As" on error popup and get a meaningless (to me) report (See ErrorLog.txt attached). It's hard to isolate the clip as it jumps back to start of timeline as soon as error is displayed.

It's a large 1hr HD project.

Thanks - Al

I had expected some users who pack projects to answer you by now. According to a recent post that I participated, packed projects from PD13 are never compatible in PD14 according to Anja. See this post: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/47246.page . See the link in that post for more details.

Thanks tomasc -
I missed that post but this is a major concern.

I thought the safest way to save a project for future use is in a folder which contains all of the original files plus what is commonly known as the EDL (edit decision list). I can also save space by deleting the original files and folders from various locations including unused stuff.
This project is months of work and I wanted to update it with some new clips.

It appears Cyberlink is aware of this problem.

They sell us upgrades with no warnings and expect us to find out by losing years of work due to an upgrade they sold us?

This should be a forum STICKY with a warning to all users before they upgrade - and another Warning in the upgrade offers before you buy.
New versions should be able to recognise saved projects from previous versions, convert them on import, and request users to save again in the new format. Instead they allow the new version to destroy our projects without warning. This is gross negligence.

After reading the links posted I believe the problems may not be as bad as you think. The Media Source error might be because you are on the latest PD14 patch. The earlier build does not have the error on a certain video format. I remember that it is a video format that I and most people don’t ever use. I would not mind browsing to locate a few files or to recreate a few items since the majority of them are loaded just fine as shown on your timeline screenshot.

I do wonder why users that pack their projects are not commenting. It could mean that they don't know if they have any problems or tried to open their earlier packed projects in PD14. Maybe no else knows.

Hi Al -

I'm not chiming in because I have anything useful to add, unfortunately. I followed the other thread tomasc linked, but have not seen any evidence of that here. i.e. projects from previous versions missing completely or failing to load.

It's clearly happening for you, and some other users, so it's a concern.

Only to confirm, I've just opened a dozen or so PDR13 projects - some packed & others not - some long and complex - some short & simple - and EVERY pds file opened correctly both in PDR13 & 14 (both with the most recent patches).

Totally understand your frustration and annoyance - especially as there doesn't seem to be any obvious cause. The media is available, but brings up a media source error... yet the same .png file was imported into PDR13 without a problem. surprised

Cheers - Tony

Glad that Tony confirmed that his PD13 packed projects have no problems to open in PD14. The error shown in PlayErr.jpg had been reported twice by the same user. The mov file from a Polaroid cube camera causes that particular error in PD14 with the 2820 update. See this link: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/48554.page . The solution for this particular situation is to downgrade to a different build of PD14 or open it in PD13.

If you still have PD13 then you can try opening that particular packed project that has the problem file.

It looks like that that most of the packed project opened on your timeline. Let us know what is the particular file format and properties that gave the error.

Thanks Tony/tomasc
I found the problems in the timeline.
It was at the beginning of Title clips (not all -only a few).
I tried to Modify and Save them in PDR14 but that failed.
I eventually deleted and re-created each one until I had a smooth timeline playback.
Saved the project with PDR14.
Closed the program and re-started PDR14.
Loaded the packed project - all OK now.
Gremlins!
