Playback pauses before every single separate object/text on the timeline. There is zero smooth playback. This makes it impossible to time text effects, or anything else for that matter.

Playback just stops before objects/text boxes in the timeline as if it needs time to process the transition, or something. By the time it has processed it, it has to skip forward or whatever.

I know I'm not the only one suffering this. Is it something to do with Windows 10? Or have the Devs messed the software up and are just not bothering to sort it? Is this why NewBlue have removed PD from their list of compatible programmes?

I absolutely hate having to make posts like this, and complain. All I want is for PD14 to work as it should do. When you can't even simply playback your work as you go, it just makes you give up.

Yes, all my drivers are up go date. And no, I do not run anything else whatsoever whilst using PD14. Windows 10. Computer specs in sig. All hardware accelerators are turned on. And I'm using the Film, 24fps setting for my timeline.

(NOTE: I do only have 8GB of ram (overclocked), and I have made a post about this before. It could be that. There's a small chance I may need another 8GB. But in task manager PD never ever uses that 8GB.

There's definitely something wrong.

It could be as simple as a setting in your "Preferences".

Click on Preferences, go to "Display". First listing is "preview quality" and "Preview mode". Play around with those 2 settings.

It could also be that your video is still loading up in your time line. I create 4K video's and I know from personal experience, that any very large video file +30-48GB's (example) will take 20-30mins or more to complete the load in the timeline. If I dropped this large video in my timeline and click on to preview immediately.......It would be a mess, just as you described.

But, everytime my preview is not perfect, when I process the video it ends up perfect.

What are your settings? Is your selection best for want you want to create?

I would suggest after you looked at the 3 things above to go ahead and "produce" your project and see if it is without stutter.

I also had a problem trying to edit from a slow HDD. I edit everything off of a SSD in AVI format and it's smooth as silk.

Trying to edit compressed files (MP4, etc) becomes a problem. I color grade and convert all my files first, then into PD.

Yes, the new files take up allot more space, hence the new 480GB SSD.

You might well be right. I've thought about using that user-created programme before, but I thought the converting process sounded like too much messing about.

So is that what you use, then, mate? If so, I'll start using it. I'm not on SSD's yet (I know I ought to be by now), but that would still make a big difference.

If you try Magic+PD be aware that the AVI files created are around 10 time larger than MP4. However, they can always be deleted when the project is completed.

Magic creates AVI files which PD finds very easy to edit and are similar to PDs own shadow files, but the AVIs are created about 8 times faster than shadow files.

You seem a little worried about the hassle of using Magic+PD. I can assure you that once you are set up (once only) the process is very quick. I converted in my last project 109 files in 23 minutes. Basically, all you need is two new folders. One is the source folder for Magic (from your camera MP4) and a second one as a target folder (load to PD from here)

Then it's easy, and editing should be much easier for you.

When editing is complete you just produce to your desired format. The great thing about all this is the MagicYuv codec is totally lossless. What you put in comes out the other end.

As already mentioned, you would most likely find SSD an advantage.

Give it a try, many are singing its praises. You have nothing to lose.

Well, I have plenty of disc space, so that'll be no problem.

Thank you for giving me more details on that. I'm going to go ahead and try it most likely tomorrow (definitely within the next few days).

Eventually, I will move to SSD.

Ah, interesting. Good find, Barry. I feel better knowing they haven't cut ties with Cyberlink for unknown reasons.

Many people have complained about NewBlue plug-ins not working with PD. It might be helpful to post your findings in a separate thread for all to see (I tried copying and pasting but that didn't work). As it stands, I get the feeling many people are blaming Cyberlink, whereas NB makes it clear it is a decision on their part to market this way. Regards,

The MP4's ARE the problem.

It was never a good idea to try to edit such compressed files. Now that everyone is working in HD it has become almost imposible. I convert my files to AVI first using the free version of Resolve. The reason I use Resolve is because I like their color grading software and it converts my MP4 to AVI when I'm done. the program I linked to above does the same without the color grading aspect. You WILL need more HDD space. Allot more. The price of SSD's has come way down and I recommend at least a 500GB version. Can I edit my video in PD14 and then use Resolve for color grading instead? I could do the color grading first but my video will get very choppy and laggy in PD14 for me to do editing.
