In PD 14 go to that smale wheel on Top wher you can Setup a lot of Details...
and in GENERAL you can Enable HD video processing ( shadow file ) Next to 16:9

Allow shadow file, it converts the files for HD or FullHD in MPEG2 (SD 720x480) this to make editing but light on the timeline.

By adding HD files or higher in PD, starts immediately reveal the conversion.

There is a specific folder for this hidden shadow files. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

Hi bonagege

If you do use shadow files, be aware that they are represented in the media library by a clip with a yellow film clip in the left hand corner. When the clip is ready for use the clip will turn green.

However, say you have ten clips in the library waiting to be converted, you must wait until they are ALL green before you start to edit. Failure to do so causes all sorts of odd things to happen. There have been may posts on this forum where using "yellow" clips has caused trouble for the editor.

Have you tried editing without the shadow files? Your i7 should be able to handle the editing without the files being enabled.

Of course, don't do anything else during editing and or encoding-- no games, e-mail, etc. .

I thank you all.

I have some difficulty with the translations, I speak Italian.

If I understand correctly, the original files are transformed temporarily into MPEG-2, so PD in editing works with less difficulty end fastly.

So it is always better to enable shadow file. Correct? I7 with the difference seems minimal.

Try editing without shadow files first. As Stevek has suggested your machine should handle up to 1080x1920 without too many problems.

However, if you are working 4K material you will almost certainly need some kind of proxy file such as shadow files.

As I said try not using shadow files because the generation is very slow and therefore time consuming.

When you can edit in the timeline without the scrubber jumping or freezing or lagging you don't need shadow files at all. If you experience any of the above symptoms you will be better off using them.

And remember what I said about making sure ALL your clips are green before you edit anything.
