When I load a video I recording with 3 tracks, only the first track is available for editing. How can I get the other tracks to load or show? Tested another editing software package (Movie Studio Platinum 13) and it loads all 3 tracks.

I downloaded the 5 second video and could see that there were at least 2 audio tracks.

I could not get the other tracks to show or play after using PowerDirector and another video editor even playing it as downloaded or after converting it to mpg2.

Sorry. .

I stand to be corrected but it looks like PD only sees the first audio track as you have discovered.

Just out of interest what's the purpose of the multiple audio streams? I've only come across this where players have the ability to switch between say language versions. Your sample seems to have tracks 1&2 the same and just some footsteps in 3. Is this some sort of specialist application perhaps?

p.s. @Steve - not overposting you we were typing at the same time I think smile

First I would like to request this as a feature, since the application is advertised as supporting multiple audio tracks. The application is fairly useless to me without it. I bought the application for this feature, plus the faster rendering and batch rendering.

And to explain why I and other gameplay YouTubers do this is so we can record the game audio and mic on sepperate tracks to adjust audio levels in the final project. This is especially important when recording with others and you need to put an extra gain on you mic audio afterwards. I personally record all together in track 1 for testing, then track 2 is the mic and 3 is the rest (what I hear in my headphones).

Ahh I understand. I think it is arguable that multiple audio tracks are supported already in PD albeit not in the way you want. If your target is YouTube then I still don't understand the need to record the tracks separately as they all have to be mixed down to a single channel in the end but since it's not something I'm interested in I'm probably missing the finer points smile

Let me give a different example, say you are filming and using two mics at different locations, this allows you to individually tweak the volume.

For me this is when I am playing, I might not be speaking loud enough to over come the game volume (gunshots, motors, etc), so in post I can tweak my mic volume or cut the game volume some while editing.

What are you using to capture the game play? Does it output 2 audio channels or does it combine them? I heard only you voice telling about the short video.

Do you have another video editor that will display the two channels?

I don't think I can usefully add anything smile. I am familiar with the processes involved in mixing audio from different inputs using a multi channel mixer but I have no experience of multi audio track recording in software although I did at one time write a few 'in-house' apps that output multiple audio channel.

I could hear your 3 tracks by re-rendering them with Handbrake using 1 track at a time and it would be easy enough to do that and then extract the audio from each one and re-mix but that would be horribly 'clunky'.

Good luck with it anyway. I'm sure you'll be able to do it even if it is with something other than PD (no workman has only 1 tool in his bag smile )

Stevek, I am using OBS Studio for my capturing. It allows upto 4 tracks of audio.

https://obsproject.com/

I am able to use Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13 to edit the video. I mute track one and tweak the other two as needed.

If you have a solution, why do you need another one?

BTW, I know about gaming but don't and prefer not to learn much about it. Sorry. .

PD14 is quicker and easier for editing and also can batch render. I make between 6-10 videos a week.

Hi,

Windows says your file (at least the one you uploaded) is 2 channel stereo. See attached.

For audio channel editing, you need to do it outside using AudioDirector (if you purchased it with PowerDirector) or WaveEditor (comes free with PowerDirector) I believe. You can access both these programs from within PowerDirector by selecting the Edit Audio button above the timeline.

Correct from the viewpoint of what you will hear when you play the file with most players. The player mixes video and audio signals (known as muxing or multiplexing) to output the signal whether analog or digital to the viewing system. This file has got 3 channels of audio encoded into it and some players and software can choose which of the audio files to mux. Have a look at it in MediaInfo smile.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. AudioDirector only shows (muxes?) two audio channels as well, so I guess sending this sample to CyberLink customer support is the way to go.

Apart from the current topic, I can only think of one other scenario where this added functionality would be of use i.e. when multi-lingual soundtracks are required. Given the very restricted use that this would be I can't see it happening. I think the move is towards outputting of video files as opposed to DVD/BD where selectable soundtracks can be used so it would be of very limited use.

My take on it is that audio mixing should be completed before starting video editing, but that's just what I think wink.

Hi All -

True - Windows Properties, PDR & ADR all read the audio as stereo, & don't detect the multiple audio. I've found the same the with multiple audio track MKV files.

MediaInfo shows 3 separate audio tracks in Draznar's sample file... and yes - Sony Movie Studio Platinum displays the tracks separately (attached image).

Longedge - I went the Handbrake route too - the only way I could isolate each track. In the case of the sample provided it was a bit pointless as 1 & 2 are the same, & 3 - well - not sure what it is.

I agree with Steve - PDR isn't likely to meet your needs with your gaming videos, despiote its other advantages.

Cheers - Tony

BTW - side note - Movie Studio won't even import the MKV files I mentioned, let alone detect the multiple audio tracks.

Let me add to this. I often edit video clips that include MKV files which contain both the AC3 Dolby Digital audio track and also the AAC 2 channel audio track for those video players which cannot support AC3 5-channel audio.

When playing video files with a Roku, the Roku can be set to pass the AC3 audio through to the TV for processing OR will use the AAC audio track if the TV indicates it doesn't support direct AC3 audio processing.

I, like the original poster of this thread, purchased PD14 thinking it could properly handle multi-track audio. I like the variety of formats built into PD14, but I'm disappointed to see that it can't produce videos with multiple audio tracks like an MKV file can support.

Furthermore, it causes a complete render (no SVRT) because the input file(s) contain multi-track audio and the output is single-track. I'm often just cutting/splicing mutliple MKV parts together. Would be nice to have SVRT and preserve the original content without re-rendering.

Does anyone know if Version 15 will handle this or where to email to learn?
