Hello, I am a new user, just downloaded PowerDirector 14 last night. I have a 2+ hour video of a dance recital, recorded as a 1080/60fps AVCHD file, that I need to copy and share with families. I worked through editing the file last night, which worked wonderfully, but am now struggling with how to burn it to a disk. The file is a bit over 20gig in size, so it wont fit on a dual layer dvd as is. I tried to publish as an mpeg-2 file, which worked for compression purposes, but the hit to quality is unacceptable. Is there any way to fit over 2 hours of HD video onto a dual layer dvd, or will I need to acquire a Blu-ray burner in order to maintain quality? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can put over 2 + hours of 720x480 SD resolution video on a dual layer dvd. In the Create Disc/2D Disc page just be sure to select the 8.5 GB DVD and SmartFit from the drop down box for quality.

For full HD video at the same 1080/60p quality you do need a blu-ray burner and a higher end standalone BD player to play those discs on a HDTV for best quality.

The final size of a project depends on a large number of variables, but by keeping the pixel count low and bit rate low one can get away with surprisingly good results. PD14 gives you full control of all of these parameters. You need to experiment a bit.

Ultimately you need to determine what the target display and playback device will be. If you need the full HD detail there is no way to avoid the BD output. Of course you can also consider multiple AVCHD DVD output as a possibilty as well. Media players are the way to go however - all the constraints you're seeing now become minor. And by switching to MP4 you get good HD resukts in smaller size all on a simple USB stick.

AVCHD

1. What DVD players do all the people you are going to share this with have? ... as in do they all HAVE Blu-Ray Disc players?

2. What video quality do you want to make this project? are you happy with 720x480 or is the HD resolution something you really want to have? - this relates to question 1 though.

Answers to these and considering what tomasc and HDedit has stated ... will refine your direction.

There is 25GB and 50 GB BD discs if you go that direction.

I HIGHLY recommend you get yourself a Blue Ray burner. You won't get true HD without it.
