Video becomes choppy after insertion into the timeline

Hello, relatively new user here for Powerdirector, but not so much to video editing.

So I've started my first project and when I import media files they play fine when I preview the meida from the library. I've also checked the source files in several video playback applications and there are no issues.

After I drop them into the timeline and actually start doing some editing they get choppy, I'll get what looks like a single frame chroma screen occasionally, and odd frame here and there will appear in the video that doesn't belong. I've made sure that the aspect ratio is the same, the timecode is NTSC 29.97 on both source and the project itself.

At first I thought this would be fixed when I actually produced the completed project, but the same artifacts still show up in the final product.

Not sure what I'm missing here, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where did yoiu get your video from? Can you please take and post as an attachment a 5 second or so video of anything so that we can try it?

If you have a reasonably powerful computer, turn of the shadow files if that feature is activated.

Please also post the dxdiag.exe evaluation of your computer. It is a Windows feature so you don;t have to download anything. Post the entire text file; do not post the results line by line. When you open dxdiag, the home page will ask about saving the output file. Select to create that file. That is what you want to post as an attachment.

By the way, there is a major difference in playing (previewing) a file and actually editing it. I assume that you are no getting any error messages.

I'm capturing the video from a program called OBS Studio.

The affect seems random. It doesn't even always happen in the same place if I create a new project, which is why it leads me to believe that it has something to do with my PowerDirector settings rather than the video itself. There's not really a way to predict where it happens so I'm not sure I can just post a 5 second source.

I've recorded a video of what happens in the preview window. I've posted a desktop capture of my PD14 edtor. 1st part is when I play from the source file, the next is when I play from the preview, which then in turn ends up in the final product. You'll see the skip right around the 11-13 second mark.

Did you check to see if the OBS Studio transmission is copy protected? Have you tried capturing a different program that you sure is not copy protected?

Near the bottom of the dxdiag file there are several errors. Some of them are related to the video capture. There are a lot so perhaps the problems with the video editing may be caused by the capture problems. .

Sorry, I don't do any gaming so I am handicapped in answering many questions. I'm not going to install the OBS software so I can't give you my personal experiences.

How long have you been using the OBS software? Have you used it successfully before? I found this article on the "best" settings for the capture.

I hope someone else can help. Good luck.

There should be no copy protection, its an open source software which is free. "as in beer"

I would understand if there were problems with the video playing after it was captured, but the video plays fine when its imported. It also plays fine in VLC media player as well as in Windows Media Player.

Its not until I drop the video into the timeline and play it from the timeline as well as after I "produce" the edited version where I start to get the choppy-ness.

If the video were choppy before the capture was even performed I'd be investigating the capture aspect. Alienware 18

what I downloaded was your screen capture withing PD14. Can you upload your actual "media file" for download?
