Screen Recorder doesn't record custom mouse pointers properly

Hi all,

I am doing tutorials for my software products using the Screen recorder that comes with Power director 14. Everything works great except for one case. In this particular program, the mouse pointer is changed to a dynamically created bitmap. the size and shape of the mouse pointer is changed based on user input, mode, etc.

It shows up on the screen just fine when recording, but the resulting recorded file always has the default mouse pointer on the video. It doesn't display the custom mouse pointer. I've used the built-in mouse pointers in the past (hand, up, down, left, and right arrows, etc), and it works fine with those. This is just a problem with custom mouse pointers.

How can I get the Screen Recorder to properly record custom mouse pointers?

Thanks!

Kevin

Hi Kevin -

This is a stab in the dark because I don't have any idea how your cursor is formatted to allow those dynamic user preferences... but it's probably related to that formatting.

Regular cursors with a .cur file extension record fine, as you've said. This is the format of the standard Windows cursors found in C:\Windows\Cursors.

Some animated cursors (like the one attached) have a .ani file extenstion. These record in Screen Recorder, but without animation - i.e. only a single frame of the animation is recorded.

Exactly the same thing occurs with Camtasia Studio, which costs about $300 more than CL Screen Recorder. There are some .ani cursors I've tried that will not record at all with any screen capture software I've tested.

All of the above may be completely useless & unrelated to your issue, but it was the first thing that came to mind.

To attempt to investigate your problem properly, we'd need to be using the software you've described... so I'm not sure how we can get around that.

Cheers - Tony
