transitions not working after shadow files removed PD 14

Hi, after I removed shadow files from my computer, I noticed that my transitions first "blackened" and then stopped working altogether! Is it a coincidence? When I try to drag the transiton down, it just doesn't do anything. The other features are still working...

Hi Angela -

Do you mean you deleted the shadow files from the folder on your PC?

Did you also uncheck the "Enable HD video processing" option in Preferences?

Are the clips still in the timeline or are they black spaces now?

I can't see how changing the shadow files option would affect transitions, unless PDR can't find the clips because you've deleted them from your hard drive.

Cheers - Tony

yes, i deleted the shadow files from my pc folder. Now, I have totally reinstalled PD, however, the transitions will not let me "pull" them and place on the timeline.

I get a round circle with a red line the "stop" icon when I try to drag the transitions down to timeline.

The gear "is" preferences. Open edit tab for Tony's reference..."Enable HD video processing" option in Preferences?

Tony, yes, I had

unchecked the "Enable HD video processing" option in Preferences" BUT NOW I RE-CHECKED IT. Still, transitions will not come let me send or drag to timeline.

Angela -

Usually, that red "NO" symbol will pop up if there's a gap between the clips. In this screenshot the gap is only 1 frame.

Expand the timeline to check - & remove any gaps.

Before we close this thread, Tony, what does this option mean? I have now unchecked it but I don't know why... Thanks.

‘Enable HD video processing (shadow file)’ – You said that you unchecked it but don’t know why. We have never seen a DxDiag .txt from your computer although it had been requested in the past. Shadow files are necessary for weak computers say $200 laptops and may not be necessary for slightly more powerful ones to edit and produce say 1920x1080 resolution video.

You should notice that the media library looks different now. The Gold and Green icons should not be on those Video thumbnails anymore.

Let us know if your video editing is more responsive now.

Thanks, I dont know what as DXDiag.txt is or I would have sent one. But, I have a separate graphics card nvidia g force and an Envy HP 1080p screen. I love PD and now a producer friend purchased it at my suggestion. I am a bit technically challenged though.. I also recently responded to a prompt that asked if I wanted to "edit using graphics card" and I chose yes. I hope I did the right thing.
