An MOV bug in PD14

I prepared a PDS project, which contained an MOV clip, in PD12. I then imported that project to PD14 and played it back. The PD14 version has distorted the aspect ratio of the clip and its subtitle. Note that these are exactly the same frame, the only difference being whether it is viewed in the preview window of PD12 or PD14...the PD12 screenshot is first.

Because I was planning to use this video project in a disk I'm creating in PD14, I guess I'll need a work around: produce the PD12 project and import the resulting video to PD14, rather than just importing the project as I had planned to do.

Seems to me this is a significant version-to-version bug, since someone who upgraded from PD12 to PD14, and no longer has PD12 available, must rework their PD12 project to be able to use it in PD14.

Hi Dan -

I've seriously tried and tried to replicate your issue, but cannot. Not saying there's not a problem - just that I can't make it happen here.

Now - when I import iPhone videos to PDR12 - 4210 patch - it misreads the orientation information completely. A video shot horizontally (with the phone held correctly) is read by PDR12 rotated 180°. A video shot vertically is read with 90° counter-clockwise rotation!

BUT once I've corrected all that in PDR12 - saved the project & opened it in PDR14, everything is just as I left it. Correct.

So - in that sense, I cannot make the "bug" work for me.

Cheers - Tony

Tony,

Makes me wonder if there's a setting that
I have set differently in PD14. Not sure what
it would be, though. All (both) of my problems
seem to be MOV-related, so I'm going to try to avoid it
and/ or convert with Handbrake in future. Regards,
Dan

Dan - Is the text in your video of the Pileated - is it part of the iPhione video?

Don't know how or why that may affect this issue... but I'm just curious - and wonder if the text has/had anything to do with how PD interpreted the material in PD14.

To add more to this topic.

I have a MOV from an iphone 6. Using PD13, on Windows 8.

The .mov displays properly when imported into the timeline, but appears upside down when trying to use the file in the multicam designer !

Hi Epiphany -

I can confirm that.

PDR13 - 3516 patch - reads iPhone orientation correctly in timeline but, in MultiCam Designer, landscape videos are rotated 180° (upside down) & portrait videos are rotated 90° anti-clockwise and squished. Screenshot attached using same clips shown above.

I seriously doubt that this will be corrected (except by updating to PDR 14 or 15).

Cheers - Tony
