Okay, since I'm on a roll here. In earlier versions of PD I used to produce movies in mp4 format and had no trouble playing them with windows media player. I've now updated my machines to windows 10 and I'm using PD 14 and when I produce a movie in HEVC mp4 it drops the video when played on either windows media viewer or the new Groove app. In both cases a note comes up and just the audio plays. What's up with that. I've tried other formats like AVC and finally got a viewable movie by going to avi format. How does one get a viewable mp4 movie in PD14 using a windows viewing app? Thanks again. I have to finish this project by tomorrow although I have the avi version as a back up. cheers, g2 Gary D. Grossman

I just produced an HEVC MP4 video (Win10, PD14) and played it on Windows Media Player and VLC Media Player with no problems, so I'm not sure what it might be. I used 1920x1080, 30p.

I can't seem to find what version of Windows Media Player I'm using, though, as it doesn't show up in my programs list and properties doesn't show the version. Regards,
Dan

Dan... when you have Win Media Player open... it's in the 'Help' - 'About Windows Media Player' ... right?

That was the same format I used Richmond Dan but with no success. I didn't try VLC player, just Windows media player and that Groove App that comes with Windows 10 Gary D. Grossman

CS2014,

No, that's the problem. I don't see any normal header with "Help". Here's a screen shot of what I see when I open WMP:

CS is correct about how to see the version of media player on the older ones. Try this: Open the media player like you did Dan. Hit the Alt key, and a popup window opens. Click on Help and then Click on About Windows Media Player. You will then see the version number.

Let us know if this helps.

Win 10 limits HEVC(H265) /MP4 playback in WMP to devices that have H265 hardware decode support.

AVC(H264) /MP4 is supported for both hardware and software decode.

They have said they will look again at this in future updates to win 10.But as far i know this is still the situation.

You could just use VLC media player or MPC HC which less bloated,to play them.

And just for... information... tapping the ALT key does NOT bring up a Help window in WIN 8.1 - just a FYI as I have WIN 8.1. Must be a WIN 10 thing.

Sorry...I thought delboy35 had finished your issue. (And the reason I was trying to get the info on WMP was so I could tell you which version I have, in case yours was a different version and that was causing your problem.)
