Shadow files: how to remove?

Hello, I would like to keep my computer free of "leftover" file segments which can take up memory space. Would it make sense to remove "shadow files" and if so, how do I find them to remove them? A file search on explorer did not reveal the location. Thanks.

If you open your preferences (the gear at the top of PD) and click on "file", it'll show you your default export location. That location should have a sub-folder labelled "ShadowEditFiles". Regards,

Did you ever turn them on? They may be temp files which delete themselves. .

I think you might have to go into your computer and change a setting to allow 'hidden files' to be seen. - Maybe

I've snooped around and where I have PD 13 loaded into my computer - the file structure looks like this:

(etc... before the following) ...Cyberlink - PowerDirector - 13.0

Lists the files in PD13. But the file "ShadowEditFiles" - is 'light grey' in my window. I think this signifys that the file is a 'hidden' file. When I click on it, all 'Movie Clip' files are listed. I am suspecting that these are all the Shadow Files I have at the moment.

See if you can look into your Control Panel and into 'Folder Options' - at least this is in my WIN 8.1. In the 'View' Tab - I have listed .... eventually Hidden filer and folders. Then there is a choice to select 'don't show' or 'show' hidden files.

This might be a bit different depending on your OS.

edit - OR.. what Steve said. lol

Hi Angela

Have you looked on your "Desktop" for a folder called PD PROJECTS in which should be folder called "shadoweditfiles" According to your screenshot it should be right there on the desktop.

So the shadow files go to the Export folder Shadowman?

(in which case Angela, IGNORE MY response)

Perhaps it's because your export location is the Desktop and you can't have sub-folders on the desktop? In any event, here's a screen shot of my PD14 showing the same image as yours...

If they are not in the selected export folder they will be in the "PD Projects" folder wherever you have placed that.

Robert,

I wasn't sure if you could have sub-folders on the desktop or not. If you can, that'd be good to know!

Hi Dan

I just dragged my Shadoweditfiles" folder to the desktop and it works fine. What I need to find out is, if I have to change the export folder to "desktop" for it to work properly.

EDIT: It seems it will only save shadowfiles to the folder in PD Projects. It ignores the folder on the desktop. This suggests that Angela should look in PD projects for a subfolder called Shadoweditfiles

Sort of like .. maybe this sort of location chain?

C:\Users\NunofUrBusiness\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector\13.0

(where 'NunofUrBusiness - is the name of 'your' computer)

At least that's where my ShadowEditFiles are located. But like I said in my first response to this thread - they appear they might be a 'hidden' file?! Are you guys seeing that they are 'hidden' type of file too or not?

I don't recall mine being hidden, but then again I always have my preference set to display hidden files. Also, CS2014, that's the same file chain that mine are in, except PD14.

Mine are definitely a 'hidden' file. I turn that option on and I see them - turn it off and they disappear. So - but as you noted I am in PD13 and WIN 8.1
