Your pc may need rebooting first. You can temporarily disable both the antivirus and the firewall on the pc and try again. laughing

Thanks but I tried all of that with no success.

It actually says that the connection to the activation server failed.

In another prompt it does say that I have no internet connection and that is why the activation server failed.

You do have 30 days from the first install/use to activate. But after 30 days, some CODEC's will be disabled. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Hello!

This situation suggests Cyberlink is possibly making life difficult for a new PD14 user. In earlier versions of Power Director(possibly before PD9) installation only required the loading of the disc, following the prompts, then at the end, to activate, typing in the CDKey number, Signing on with Director Zone was optional. This is how I was able to install PD5 then PD7 before I had internet access. When I got PD8, the same situation applied. I didn't need internet access to complete the process(activate the programme), but with PD14, an internet access WAS needed to finish the process as typing in the CDKey number was no longer enough, and this is where K2347's problem lies. It's time Cyberlink did a complete rethink on this situation and REMOVED that last stage which required internet connection, in other words, take the process back to the point where only the CDKey was required, and save a lot of grief for a lot of new PD14 users.

The moral here is: If you make it harder to install a programme(for whatever reason), you'll end up driving potential custmers to your rivals.

Neil.

If you're on the net my guess is you're firewall is preventing installed the program/PowerDirector 14 from "communicating" with CyberLink's servers. Check your firewall settings and allow specific program communication for PowerDirector, as you would for a browser and mailer to bypass the firewall.

I note you've referenced your friend using a crack to circumvent PowerDirector purchase and activation process.
1. In the long run it isn't going to work for your friend as activation keys will only function for a short number of times on an illicit old version. A update patch may even "crack" it up ha ha.
2. A hack on a 32bit neutered trial isn't a lot of good.
3. Most of all, your friend isn't being very smart, your friend is a thief. Tell your friend to buy the product asap.

Just an opinion.
Dafydd

Hmmm. yes. I can only recommend you see my post dated 07/03/2016 16:45:57. Pretty-much covers it for me. Can't blame you for wanting a refund, you seem fairly hacked-off by all this. Earlier versions of Power Director did NOT require an internet connection to finish the activation process. Back as far as PD8 they could be fully activated(up and running) simply by typing in the CDKey. Registration was optional and really was simply a process of joining in on the Director Zone Forum to get help from other users. Cyberlink really needs to go "back to school" to learn some customer relations here. Your experience, K2347, is how Cyberlink should NOT go about things, customer relations-wise. I guess Cyberlink will only learn its lesson if people stop buying its product due to the "road-blocks" put in their way when trying to activate the product they paid "big bucks" for.

Oh man am I ever done with Cyberlink.I thought Avid Pro Tools were bad but atleast their support is awesome.Maybe I will have my buddy install his crack of Powerdirector 12 on my pc just to give Cybercrap my middle finger. Also I might have wanted my Powerdirector on an offline pc just like I have my $20,000 Pro Tools software/hardware system in my recording studio.I would have been screwed!

Well, there you go, Cyberlink!

Looks like you've lost yourself another customer! A glowing report K2347 will NOT be giving, I'm sure! It is fortunate for you, Cyberlink, that this forum is run by the USERS of your product rather than yourselves. At least we users can find ways around the difficulties you seem to want to create for us. As for K2347, well, he's off to get a rival product to produce his videos, you've well-and-truly lost him, and if word-of-mouth is the best advertisement for a product, what K2347 has to say, based on his very recent experience, then don't expect a rush of customers to your door anytime soon, Cyberlink. As good as your product can be, and it can be quite good, it's customer relations that will be your ultimate downfall.

K2347, see my comment, posted only moments ago. I'm truly sorry you've had this experience. Perhaps my apology to you might SHAME Cyberlink into doing something - anything - to remedy this situation, but alas it's likely too late.

With deepest regret

Neil.
