How to record Stereo Mix and Mic at the same time?

Hi! I would like to record Skype and Google Chat calls for a podcast with a friend of mine and I. We are using a Skype recording software right now that mixes both voices into one audio track. So it is impossible to noise cancel or level each of our mic inputs independently.

I see in Audio Director I can record Stereo Mix, which would be his voice through Skype. And I can record my Mic input, but I can't do both at the same time. I add two tracks to the Mix room, and set one to record Stereo Mix and the other to Mic.

If I set the first track to Stereo Mix, then the second to Mic, the first track will switch to Mic as well. So both tracks record the same thing. If I switch one track, the second track gets switched as well.

I can't seem to figure out how to keep one track for Stereo Mix and the other track for Mic so I can record our voices independently. Any idea? Please help!!

Hello happyally,

Welcome to the ADR forum laughing

If I set the first track to Stereo Mix, then the second to Mic, the first track will switch to Mic as well. So both tracks record the same thing. If I switch one track, the second track gets switched as well.

Exactly what occurs here!

After wrestling with your question for some days without resolution, I finally referred it to the team at CL. What you are trying to do (record from multiple sources concurrently & keeping audio tracks separate) cannot currently be done in ADR6.

Your concerns have been sent to the Development team for consideration.

There are simple ways (outside ADR) of recording Skype conversations, but I know of none that can isolate separate audio inputs. My recordings come out with a single audio file containing stereo mix/webcam & mic input.

Thank you so much for working on this to try and find a solution. What are the simple ways of recording Skype conversations that you recommend?

Hello again,

I have used screen recorder software, Camtasia Studio or CL's Screen Recorder that comes with PDR. Both are able to record screen activity and all audio inputs. As I mentioned, the audio is recorded as a single file.

There are some dedicated Skype recorders which have different features. You'd need to determine what best suits your needs.

Some links to get you started:

http://www.evaer.com/ ($20) - I listed this first because it seems to have great features (never used it)
