Adjusting Video Bitrate and Keyframe rate in PD - will this improve video sharpness?

Thanks Jeff (JL_JL) for the article "Understanding Video Bit File Rates" - http://www.adobepress.com/articles/article.asp?p=1381885&seqNum=2

In this document, it discusses video bit rates and keyframe interval.

So my question is, can I adjust video bit rate in PD when I want to burn or create a BluRay disc?

I see where in "Produce" "+" - create a profile (H.264 AVC - M2TS - AVC 1920x1080/60p (28Mbps)) - video - Average video bitrate - can be adjusted. So if I produced a clip and increased this number (from the 25500 Kbps to the upper limit of 48500 Kbps), I would expect to see water flowing over rocks in a river with better sharpness - crispness as far as video images. Correct?

I read about keyframe interval too. I do not see where I can adjust this though - in Produce or in Burn a disc. From the article - it appears that if I increased the keyframe interval that the result is more sharpness to the video clip also.

And I guess that this may sound stupid but - we want the video bit rate to be a higher number correct - if we want more sharpness-resolution-clarity in the video when it's produced, or burned to BluRay disc?

I realize I'm talking about 'Produce' in one case here and 'Burn to Disc' in the other. It just looks like video bite rate can be adjusted in Produce but not the Burn to Disc - in PD.

I don't believe you can set the bitrate in create disc, but if you first produce with a higher bitrate that is within the range that create disc will accept, then you should get better results. Higher bitrate up to the original bitrate of the video. Going above the original bitrate should offer little advantage. __________________________________

So I need to find out the bitrate of the camera and the clips that I record on the camera... to know what bitrate I should target to burn to BluRay ... or if I produce to a file.

I'm using a GoPro Silver Hero 4 and a FugiFilm XP70. I'll try to get information from those specific cameras regarding bitrate.

Thanks for a response Jamie.

If you look at the original Camera videos with MediaInfo, you would get a report of the bitrate as found in the video file.

I dld that from part J but when I click on the application file ( to try to install it) a 'DOS' sort of window opens for about 1 - 2 seconds and then closes. THe program (MediaInfo) does not open up - as a result I am not able to use it.

I do not know what went wrong. You can try the official site for MediaInfo.

http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

Be aware that there is Open Candy and it wants to install extra software. You avoid that by doing Custom install and unchecking and Declining the extra software. The last time I used this download, there was two extra software.

Pay attention! Do not just go clicking on stuff without reading what is said. MediaInfo does not have any virus, but some virus checkers says is does, Virus software often detects the Open Candy.

You use MediaInfo by right click on the video or audio file you want Info about and chose MediaInfo in the right click menu.

You can also get MediaInfo if you install a K-Lite Codec package.

Thanks Carl. I'm dlg the GUI_0.7.81_Windows.exe right now.

Like I said, when I tried to invoke the program before - it just didn't seem to start properly. I WILL be aware of and preform the CUSTOM install. I've recognized that with just about anything I dl form places now - and I'm CUSTOM installing everything. THanks.

Will let you know if successful.

Hmmm.. it did NOT ask me if I wanted a CUSTOM installation ????!!!! ( I DID create a restore point before I installed...)
Where would all the other 'stuff' reside if it came along - could be anywhere?

Got MediaInfo to work though.

My clips from:
GoPro Hero 4 Silver:
MPEG-4 (Base Media / Version 1)
Overall bitrate - 45.1 Mbps

FugiFilm XP70:
MPEG-4 (QuickTime)
Overall bitrate - 14.7 Mbps

I think right there is what I've been looking for and understand why the FugiFilm XP 70 video looks NOT AS NICE (sharp) as the GoPro - the bitrate of the XP70 is much lower - almost 3 times smaller then the GoPro!

I THINK... perhaps that is why the XP70 clips are not as good a quality as teh GoPro.

Thanks Carl for the information on MediaInfo.

I DID PAY ATTENTION... lol

Seriously.. I did and I did NOT select something that it was offering. But I did not see several things offered when I installed.

Thanks for the PNG - and yep I got the MediaInfo to work now.

I see in one of the View options "Tree" - even has the codec listed - I was curious what codec/s are being used for these clips. Nice!

Thanks again Carl!

Pretty nice that the 'timestamp' is on the clip too!
