Asus ROG Laptop with GTX965M - nvidia drive 361.43

I now have Hardware Acceleration when rendering to MP4 finally. Transcoding a 2hr MPG to MP4 only took 8min! Intel i7 4770k, 16GB, GTX1060 3GB, Two 240GB SSD, 4TB HD, Sony HDR-TD20V 3D camcorder, Sony SLT-A65VK for still images, Windows 10 Pro, 64bit

I'd do some basic diagnostics with MediaInfo to see if you got what you wanted. If not interested in bitrates and it views fine, that's a good check too. PD14 V2302 had issues for my initial HA encoding screen evaluation. Some brief comments here: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/25/46485.page#242601 Very dependant on produce profiles so it affects each differently.

Media Info checked out and the file played back great. Thanks

----

Made me think so I renderned another file. WOuld seem that PD13 is writing the wrong info in the file. This last file was another 2hr hallmark movie. Media Info: 720p 328Kbps@2.443fps AVC(high@L3.1)(CABAC/2 ref frames).

Those numbers don't make any sense as the file is 3.14GB. The custom profile was set for 720p 4000Kbps @29.97fps. The video quality is excellent.

Yes, something not right, I never solely trust MediaInfo as it does not calculate a bitrate, simply reports header info. I use utilities that scan the file and calculate bitrate so I know what I'm really dealing with. One can also do a very basic hand calc of avg bitrate. The 3.14GB is not right either for 2hr at 4000Kbps video, too small but maybe your 2hr terminology was used loosely.

But, as I said, if you like the quality, there you have it.

I tried several video file inspection tools. Media Info was more simple. But I decided to Google other tools and found Moo0 Video Info.

According to Moo0, the same file:
File Name: mystery woman_at first sight.mp4
File Size: 3.14 GB

[Container]
Format: MOV,MP4,M4A,3GP,3G2,MJ2 (QuickTime / MOV)
Duration: 02:00:18.29
Bit Rate: 3,743 kbps

major_brand: MSNV
minor_version: 16786688
compatible_brands: MSNVisommp42

Codec: H264 (H.264 / AVC / MPEG-4 AVC / MPEG-4 part 10)

Earlier it was stated:
Quote: The custom profile was set for 720p 4000Kbps @29.97fps
and your Moo0 Video Info shows:
Quote: [Video]
Codec: H264 (H.264 / AVC / MPEG-4 AVC / MPEG-4 part 10)
Codec Tag: avc1 (0x31637661)
Picture Size: 1280x720 (PAR 1:1, DAR 16:9)
Frame Rate: 2.44 fps
Bit Rate: 3,583 kbps

You got an average video bitrate of 3583 kbps vs 4000kpbs specified, not exactly comparable to what you requested. 10+% difference at these lower bitrates can be noticeable in picture quality to many. Since you posted Moo0 Video Info, here is the info for a replicate of your custom profile and movie duration.

File Name: GGR_test.mp4
File Size: 3.49 GB

[Container]
Format: MOV,MP4,M4A,3GP,3G2,MJ2 (QuickTime / MOV)
Duration: 02:00:18.29
Bit Rate: 4,162 kbps

[Metadata]
major_brand: MSNV
minor_version: 16786688
compatible_brands: MSNVisommp42
creation_time: 2016-01-03 15:28:23

Codec: H264 (H.264 / AVC / MPEG-4 AVC / MPEG-4 part 10)
Codec Tag: avc1 (0x31637661)
Picture Size: 1280x720 (PAR 1:1, DAR 16:9)
Frame Rate: 29.97 fps
Bit Rate: 4,002 kbps

[Audio]
Codec: AAC (AAC (Advanced Audio Coding))
Channels: Stereo
Sample Rate: 48,000 Hz
Sample Data Format: 32 bits (Float)
Bit Rate: 159 kbps

One will note:
1) Video bitrate is as specified in the custom profile, an average of 4002 kbps, not 10% less
2) Overall file size for 2hr duration is larger as it should be, 3.49GB vs 3.14GB, and reflects video bitrate of 4000 kbps avg

Above data was PD13 Nvidia HA results with older driver. My guess, if you would use CPU encoding on your laptop with the same profile you would get the average video bitrate of 4000 kbps you specified. Yes, very time consuming on that laptop. So, as I had mentioned, since one does not get what you ask for one simply has to always check or view to see if one is happy with the quality. That constant check and see just not value added for me. For some profiles the effect is somewhat small as yours, for other profiles I’ve seen 40-50% change in bitrate and very noticeable on picture quality.

Since it represents a huge time saving for you on the laptop and only a reduced bitrate vs custom specified it surely is an attraction. Maybe with the New Year, the next PD update, the next Nvidia update, things will work as advertised with PD, what a wish!

I apologize for interrupting your conversation guys, but...

I want to try to learn more and understand what you two are talking about.

The issue/s of hardware acceleration, transcoding, bitrates, and what the mediainfo diagnostics report... what can I learn from those?

I wont bother you guys anymore - just thought I'd try to learn something.

Not really the post for a long response to this. MediaInfo, Moo0 Video Info, Exiftool,.... all utilities that display metadata/header data of a given file. Lots of important info for any video editor, only as valid as what wrote it initially. These display utilities don't analyze anything about the file, just display stored info by the tool that wrote the file initially.

Bitrate, once a given encoder is defined, like H.264, the single most important item defining picture quality is bitrate. High level overiew presented here http://www.adobepress.com/articles/article.asp?p=1381885&seqNum=2 maybe of some value to you.

What I was thinking when I posted was something like 'could you point me in the right direction' ... to go read some about this - and this is what you have done.

Thanks
