Major issues trying to create disc

I was in the create disc area, making the adjustments needed to make it all look pretty. I went back out to the edit area to adjust the images used for the chapters...after doing that, when I tried to get back into the create disc area, the program is freezing up on "Checking Menu (74%)" and then it limps over to updating menu something or another (at 78%) and just stays there until my computer finally goes to sleep. I would love to provide a screen shot, but when it's hung up on the "updating", it's taking over my whole computer, not allowing me to open or go anywhere else. I can't even ctrl-alt-delete to get to task manager...This has happened multiple times.

I've got a client waiting on their DVD's...I can't afford to be having this issue right now. "Love one another." -- JC

Sorry to hear about your problems. The best way I can think of to get out of that loop is to bring up Task Manager (right-click on the taskbar, or Ctrl+Alt+Del) and kill PD13. To avoid getting stuck, find another PDS file and double-click on that to launch PD, then use the File menu, Recent Projects to open the project you're having problems with.

Try making/confirming the chapter image adjustements in the Edit window, then save the project and close PD. Now reopen it and see if the Create Disc menu is more responsive.

Thanks...have done that... no joy. I can get to the create disk area through other projects, so I'm now thinking there must be something within the file or project itself that's making it glitch. I was able to get to the create disc area for this project before selecting photos for the chapters... And I've produced the project into one video file, put that into a new project, set the chapters as needed and got to like 84% before it hung up. I will next try to move the chapter locations a bit to see if maybe it just doesn't like one of the locations (perhaps where I'm putting the chapter markers) or something.

Regardless, this is really frustrating and I'm getting really crunched for time... "Love one another." -- JC

Sure. Producing the video first was a good idea, so if you're getting a similar error, it's probably something with the disc menu you're using. Can you try another menu, or maybe save the existing menu with a new name and see if that's any different?

Also, try burning to a folder and not directly to a disc if you haven't already tried that.

Problem with that is, I can't get to the create disc area to change the disc menu I want to use. And the other thing is...I had it set up and good to go earlier today, but then decided to designate a frame (image) for each chapter to go into the "scene" page... "Love one another." -- JC

Ok. Take a look at this setting, then go to that folder and see if you can open up a version from before you tried changing the chapter images:

Siince you need to get this working ASAP, maybe skip setting the nice images and see if you can get the disc burned

I think I got it...We will find out in about a half an hour after the first disc burns.

I blew out all of the chapters, and then saved the project under a new name. In the new project, I re-did the chapter markers, putting them on the places that show what I wanted to go into the Christmas ornaments...and it took them! There must of just been something hinky about the menu not wanting to have the chapter markers moved or something (it's a menu I downloaded from Director Zone). But GEEZ, man, a LOT of time and frustration wasted on this...and now it looks like an all nighter for me, burnin' burnin' burnin...

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I will file away that idea about trying to go back a couple of saves through the "project" tab...Good idea... "Love one another." -- JC

OK. There have been problems with various DZ menus and it's never been clear (to me) what's going on. I rarely make discs but I did learn the hard way to stick with a known quantity whenever possible.

On the autosaves, you may want to change the interval from the default of 10 down to the lowest value of 2 mins to keep the amount of rework to a minimum in case of a crash or very bad editing outcome.

I hope the disc burn works this time!

The menu had good reviews and a favorable rating. I WILL go back to it tomorrow and take a second look. The person who built it has contributed a lot of well-reviewed items, so I felt pretty good about using it.

During a similar project last year ( a BIG high school choir concert), I learned the hard way to be careful about what you download from DZ. It's a very handy tool, but as you say, it pays to be vigilant. "Love one another." -- JC

Sure. Also, I didn't mean to imply that there was anything shady about using DZ content, more like there's no debugging or vetting of the content code and some uploads may have hidden quirks when applied to a new project.

It's normally a very useful resource, and it's only the disc menus that I've seen problems with, both in person and on the forum.
