CLOSED - What BD-R's are most reliable - What BD-R's to purchase?

So I've gotten the LG Blu-Ray Burner - WH14NS40 installed into the computer and have created a music CD and a video on a standard DVD disc - so... the next step is to burn a Blu-Ray disc. I haven't been able to find ANY at the local stores so I have not been able to try this yet.

Leads me to the question - which BD-R's should I purchase? I've been looking at ratings on Amazon and the 1 star ratings are scaring me a little. Looks like some issues, although in the minority, of discs that will not burn or have format issues.

Is one particular brand more reliable than others? If not, then I think I'll get some Verbatim's, 25 G, 6X .

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Those Verbatims BD-R (not the LTH) are pretty much what the others brands are compared to. I would reccomend that you buy some BD-RE in the beginning to test your work.

BD-RE are still fairly expensive, so if you buy 1 or 2 or a short spindle, keep them protected when not in use. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

I saw TDK and Memorex and a few really, more or less, obscure brands - and concluded that the Verbatims were probably alright to go with - but I looked at the '1 Star' reviews ( I seem to want to know the worst case senario) and those ratings, as I've stated initially, scared me a little.

Should have expected that though. I about 1/2 think that ratings have to be taken 'with a grain of salt' as I wonder how many ratings are submitted by the manufacturer or by their competiors?! The 1 star reviews/ratings were stating that discs did not work properly - didn't allow the burning to take place, etc...

Barry, when you say to "keep them protected", you mean physically correct (as opposed to magnetically - as I'm pretty sure DVDs and BD-Rs are optical in nature)? So either put them in a Jewel case when done or mass stored in a spindle case?

THanks for the feedback guys!

Just saw 'format version 2' with a Sony BD-RE - 25GB 2X 25 pack/spindle in Amazon. Are there format concerns I should be aware of when considering buyng?

What Barry means "Keep them protected": Put the disk in a disk envelope or some kind of DVD Case. Disk envelopes are paper sleeves that you can buy in Packs of 50 or 100. One company calls them 'White CD & DVD Sleeves' sold in 100 Pack. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

As far as BD-RE being expensive check out this link: http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=bd-re+25gb&tag=mh0b-20&index=aps&hvadid=42565771&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_5x7x3l39a1_e . The price for BD-RE can be about a dollar a disk, same as for BD-R.

I would suggest getting a few BD-RE because they can be erased and reused. All your others should be BD-R as they are a little cheaper and the burn speed of 6x is 3 times better.

I'm very happy with Verbatum BD-R. Look at latest reviews.
