Get "date picture taken" on the time line (PDR12)

Hi,

When I move the pointer over the time line, I see the file names of the pictures.

However, I would like to see the "date picture taken" when I move over the picture in the time line.

Why?

If I want to add a new picture on the correct (chronological) position, I have to select a random picture, right-click on it and read the XIF date. This is repeated until I have found the right spot.

Is there a way to do it in an easier way?

  1. Use Windows Explorer sort by Date modified, to sort your videos by date/time. That would get the names of the file in date/time order.

  2. Powerdirector has a sort by date in the library.

.This is PD 12.

Hi Carl,
thanks for the reply. I am aware of those options.
As suggested, I use the option 2 as a start to fill my timeline.
Once I have finished my work on the timeline, I empty the library and import a new set of pictures, which gives me a better overview. Otherwise the new pictures get lost in the existing library.
My challence now is the insert the new pictures on the right spot in the timeline.
Your suggestions, unfortunitally, does not help.
Thanks again.

Organizing pictures in the beggining is the way to go. If you have say 20,000 pictures then it is not helpful not to organize them into folders by date or not to have use an album sofware.

There is hope. See this link on sorting based on exif data: http://www.tested.com/tech/photography/413-the-best-way-to-organize-your-massive-photo-library/ . Once you got it all organized by exif data you stll need to create a lot of folders to hold each of those 2500 images that you mentioned. Picasa and DIM are freeware to do this,

Let us know if any of this might help on your next project...

Hi again,

thanks for suggestions.

Sometimes I get pictures with a wrong file date. Eg when I get a bunch of pictures, sent via FTP to my NAS. All pictures have the same date in the file extensions.

In that case, I run the program FASTSTONE Image Viewer, which extracts the EXIF data form the pictures and adapts the date of the filename. Once done , I can sort the pictures in the right order.

But again, when I am finished with my project, I get new pictures which I want to insert on the right spot on the timeline. When I merge these with the original pictures, they will appear in the right order.
Worse case I have to redo all the work on the timeline (transistions, zooming, cutting, etc...) but then I prefer to use the way of working, as I described before.

Thanks.
