Create Movie with chapters
[Post New]
In PD10 I made a 60 min video on the Timeline with 2 lots of 22 chapters and burnt a navigable DVD from it taking around 25 mins.

It was perfect, but, as the Timeline can be changed or altered I wanted to make a movie from it in either H.264 or MPEG4 so that it can't be changed so I can burn it again and again as required.
Making this movie took about 5 hours of rendering and at the end of it there are no chapters whatsoever! Just the movie as if it had left out all the chapters so any disc burnt from it will not be navigable! ie a complete waste of time (5 hrs)!

Can someone please explain where I am going wrong?

Thanks,

If you want to archive your project so that you can recall the original completed project. Use Pack Project Materials.

File > Export > Pack Project Materials. You can pack the project to a folder on your hard drive or to an external hard drive.

Since I do not own Powerdirector 10 I am guessing based on all other versions of Powerdirector I do own (I.E. PD7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 14 live). PD 9 is the closest to PD 10.

In PD10 you could check Burn to folder so that you can burn another dvd from that with imgburn or power2go from that created folder.

You can create an avchd disc on dvd media with h.264 but not mp4. You would have to purchase a BD player to play that disc. 60 min. is too close to the time limit of dvd-dl blank discs. Don't know if smartfit is available in PD10 for avchd discs. mp4 is not given as an option to create a dvd or avchd disc. You probably created a data disc and that is why there is no chapters.

Phil, from what you've described it sounds as if you produced the project to a file then brought that into the timeline to create the disc. If so you'll need to go into the Chapter Room and recreate all the chapter points as the produced file won't have them. The chapter info doesn't get included in a produced file.

The movie is in the Timeline with all the 22 chapters in the "EDIT" section.
Next in the process is "Produce" to make a movie in let's say H.264.
The next in line is "Create Disc" where I can easily burn a disc from the "Edit" section. I have done it several times. It is so easy to do.
But this form in the "Edit" section is so prone to easily being altered or changed in some way that I wanted to make a movie in the "Produce" section so that it can't be messed with. But it doesn't work as the resulting file has NO Chapters in it. It seems to me to defy all logic but hey, who am I to determine what is logic or not with Cyberlink!

I've had the same experience, that's why I queried the way you were doing it. It really means that if you want to produce a file to "freeze" the edited footage there is no point in creating the chapters whilst doing the editing as this information is lost during the Produce step. The chapters have to be put in when the produced file is brought into the timeline.

If you want to be able to make additional copies of the final DVD a good way is to burn to a folder. In PD13 I burn to an ISO image, but I don't know if PD10 has this option, and then use Imgburn to burn the DVD or Blu-Ray from that. Using this method once you are completely satisfied with the original you can make duplicates quickly and with full confidence. Regards,
Mike
