Opening project stuck at 80% Update Timeline Data

Just opended a project I was working on. It is Lighting adjustments, transitions and titles. Now when I open it it is stuck at 80% Update Timeline Data. Task manager shows average 13-15% CPU and memory is at the 638MB aproximately. Maybe it will load but it is taking a lot of time for it to fully load. The project has XAVC files from a Sony FDR-AX33 with shadow files generated.

NOTE: Recommending to update to a beta patch will not work since those patches do not work on live version although my workaround is to uncompress the SFX archive and copy/paste the Data2.7z (64bit file) to the Program Files folder.

EDIT: It loaded but took several minutes to load, to an unacceptable amount of time. I think more than 15 minutes loading. I attach my timeline.

Does the long delay happen every time you open PD, or was it just this one time? You said you're using shadow files - do you know if all the little tags in the Media Library were green before you closed PD last time, or was even 1 still yellow? What Windows version are you running?

Just this project. I assume it is due to Power director processing each of the cuts I made in the timeline. Since in other project I do not have that much cuts it opens fast. I suspect this is also a behavior of using XAVC files since when using other file types it opens fast too. Ok. I was asking a slightly different question - does PD always open slowly with this project, or was it just the last time?

I've had random incidents where it took maybe a minute to load but it opens normally after that. When it's taking a long time to load, there's usually a ton of disk activity but I haven't thought to pull up task manager to see what's going on.

Now that I think about it, it seems like I'm usually opening an older project for the first time in a long while, and maybe PD is cleaning up/deleting all the old temporary files.

Any chance that you were doing something similar here?

Nope. Just with this project. CPU and Disk Activity was very low. It seems every time it opens the project is proces each of the splits in the timeline because I can see the Cpu going on average 15% and then powerdirector goes into "not responding". Then it goes normal and the "not responding" with the same Cpu activity until the project finally loads, but takes lots of minutes. This is why I assume it is due to each splits in the timeline.

Got it. Looking at the timeline I can see that it's probably got to do lots of preparation to work through when opening up, and think it would help if you could produce as much of the project as possible and replace all the edited clips that were included with the single produced clip.

I don't know where you're at in the editing or if you'll still be working with clips at random points in the timeline, but you could at least try that and save it as a new project and see if that makes a difference

This video is finished. However I had some problems with the speed version of this video so I had to open it to speed up each clip. Once I finish that I don't need this project since I'll save it as a new project, but just wanted to give this some attention since I didn't had this issue with the past video of the lunar eclipse which I recorded in 1080p AVCHD. I was getting this on a project too. It would go to 80, then 86, then jump back to 80 and freeze on load. I thought the file might be corrupt, so I tried loading a few autosaves and had the same problem. I decided maybe I had a funky shadow file, so I found that folder, deleted all of those, then tried opening it again.

The file opened. I'm not sure if it was blind luck or purging the shadow files.

OK. The XAVC S codec requires more processing than AVC, and decoding 4k takes 4x the time that HD does, and maybe with the large amount of footage it's just something that your hardware wasn't able to breeze through.

What happens if you turn off shadow files, then close and reopen PD? The shadow files will still be available when you re-enable them, and this might help determine if they play any roll in the long opening time.

Try to go to settings in project and uncheck "show sound waveform" , "enable continuos thumbnails on video....", and "enable shadow files......", one of them may help but I disabled all.

After loading project you can enable again to suits your needs.

Worked for me.
