Thinking of getting PowDirector7 Deluxe...but what AVI & DIVX?
[Post New]
Basically i've very keen to get PowDirector 7, may buy it today depending on answers to this question.
In the 'version comparison' on the cyberlink sites neither Powerdirector 7 Deluxe or Ultra are listed as having Divx or AVI as a usable video import format
Does 7 deluxe support Divx and AVI formats?

Thanks ~Shadow Arcanii~

AVI is a container which can incorporate many different video types but yes PD will use AVI if it has the codec support.
Divx has to be installed independently but then PD can use these files.

pjc,

You wrote...

...which is true. But Divx did come with version 6 (without having to independently install it). Would you happen to know the reason why Cyberlink chose not to include Divx in version 7?

It seemed very odd to me that it wasn't included, as I'm sure a lot of people who now have version 7, upgraded to it from version 6, and had a lot of Divx files that they might have wanted to revisit some day, or load into version 7 to re-edit or produce to a streaming format or whatever.

Was there any major reason why Dvix didn't simply come with PD7, as it did with PD6? Click here PDtoots for a collection of PowerDirector Tutorials and Tips

I have no idea why they didn't bundle the codec - perhaps a legal/financial decision. I have jumped ship (sort of) from Ulead, so Powerdirector 7 is my first Cyberlink product so I can't comment on PD6.

Hi,

Non inclusion of DivX in 7. Just the option decided upon during development. Product delivery file size was a consideration along with "who uses DivX". PD7 editors can download and install DivX as a separate package to be accessed and used from within PD7 and that's the option R&D went with.

Okay thanks everyone,
If it can handle AVI and all i have to do to get DIVX is install a seperate file/patch (presumably free) then thats no hassle at all and i'll get it.
Btw i'm not upgrading from PD6, I'm upgrading from PD3

Shadow,

I know there are numerous places/sites where one can get the Divx codec, but for what it's worth, here's a link to where I got mine (after I upgraded to PD7 and noticed it wasn't included as before)

BTW: There's no annoying watermark from this download.

Cheers Cranston,
But i already have the DivX codec, i just wanted to know if PD7 would actually accept a DivX format video as an input for editing, or simpley vomit it out and reject it.
But thanks for everyone's help, i'm probably going to buy it in a little while.
