Enabling "High Performance Mode" in CL Screen Recorder can give some alarming results on some systems! surprised

I ran this test on two PCs:1. i7 - 3930K GTX 680 2. i7 - 920 GTX 260 I made a test video 1:54:28 in duration then used CL Screen Recorder to capture it on both PCs - once with High Performance Mode enabled & once without.

On PC 1. (by far the better of the two) there were no alarming results. Captures went smoothly with no glitches.

On PC 2. (by far the lesser of the two), with High Performance Mode enabled, the audio dropped in & out throughout the recording AND the screen capture was 2:48:08 in duration. The other recording was fine.

Full sized screenshots attached

Hi RobCam -

After you click on Settings, click on Advanced in the bottom left corner >>> you'll see it under Performance Settings.

"Hardware Video Encoder"? I have that checked, I have a GTX980 so I figured why not.

I'll try it unchecked and see if there is a noticeable difference, thanks. I am just playing around with it for now to find the best settings.

It took me awhile to find out how to get system audio working as well, I didn't realize that I needed to have Voice over checked to get any audio at all. I think I have everything working pretty good now.

Hi Dan -

Maybe it was removed from later versions??? Not a clue!

Don't worry - after my earlier testing I leave it unchecked anyway. So, even though the option is there on mine I never use it.

Well users. If your version does not have the "High Performance Mode". then post the version and build of your PD14 in order to narrow down when that mode was eliminated.

My version 14.0.2302.0 & VDE151023-03 has it.

OK - maybe that's not going to nail it.

I've been using PDR14 since beta testing (pre-release) and that option has been there all the time. I'm not aware that Screen Recorder has been updated or modified significantly, except:

2707 - Enhance the stability of Desktop Capture

2019 - Fixes the issue that the Screen Recorder does not stay minimized while recording in Windows 10 Task View

Cheers - Tony

A guess:
Down to GPU capability and Driver being used in the Nvidia card.
Note the "Hardware video encoder" option in the image looks unavailable.
Different cards/drivers will throw up different options.
Just a guess.

I'd be prepared to support that theory/guess.

Just checked the laptop (GTX740M & Intel HD Graphics 4000) and Screen Recorder shows this:

Both desktops (GTX680 & GTX260) have the High Performance mode option. You're right, Dafydd, Hardware Video Encoder is unavailable on both PCs.

Not only, but also, both desktops have CyberLink Mirror Driver installed & the laptop doesn't.

All of that supports the idea that the installation is hardware related.

It appears to be not only hardware specific, but time-of-day specific! Yesterday after seeing this thread I looked at my PD SR and discovered my hardware encoder unticked and greyed out, no High Performance box to tick. I was on an older PD, so I updated to the 2707. THEN I had the High performance box along with the now-tickable HE box. I wake up now to find my greyed out but ticked HE box, but no HiPe box! Wait I just opened PD again and my HE box is greyed out and unticked. You've got to be kidding me. I have QuickSync on this machine but it's not to be found in the Screencap at all. Just to stir the pot, though possibly irrelevant…

I do have the High Performance option available on my older laptop. Perhaps the following laptop specs can help our tech members further isolate an confirm the issue.

W7 Home Premium - 64-bit - Intel HD Graphics (only) - i7-2630QM @ 2 to 2.9ghz - Memory 8GB.

I also see that if I have SR set to MP4, the HE box is greyed but ticked, but if I then switch to WMV the HE box is, of course, unticked and greyed out. THEN if I switch back to MP4 the HE box is unticked and greyed out. The SR must be closed and re-opened to regain HE. It's comforting to know the module was so well thought out... If you are WIN7 or earlier, CL recorder uses their provided mirror driver to provide “Enable high performance mode”. Although as many have found, it’s not that “high performance”. This is not required on WIN8 and newer OS. The other performance setting simply reflects prime GPU, (QS or hardware video encoder).

So, those that have the box simply have WIN7 or earlier and those that don’t have WIN8 or latter.

Box is nothing PD14 version specific, although CL might update the mirror driver in a recent patch.

I trust your explanation, Jeff, however I have W10 and the HiPe box was there, briefly. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

The cavalry has arrived! That makes good sense, Jeff. Laptop is Win10 & both desktops Win7. I appreciate your clarification & clear thinking

Barry - here (on Win7) the "HiPe" box is available whether MP4 or WMV is selected, but the Hardware Video Encoder is greyed out in both.

It was there then it wasn't? Man - there are ghosts in your system!

Side note: Yesterday I open Create Disc > Menu Preferences to see a thumbnail for a menu I'd deleted about two years ago! I have ghosts too.

Cheers - Tony

There aren't any settings in SR to change the opacity of any on-screen items. It just records whatever's on the screen, so you may want to check to see if the webcam app has any visibility settings you can change.

If I'm missing something, please take a screenshot and share it here. Use Alt+PrintScreen or the Windows snipping tool (Win+Shift+S) if you have Win10/11, then paste it into Paint or any image editing app then save the image as PNG or JPG. Click on the Attachments button below the forum's text box to upload and share it here.
