PD13 Horizontal Lines Flutter

Whenever objects with horizontal lines (e.g., rows of stadium seats) are video'ed, the image flutters. The problem can be seen in the original file (AVCHD) and is made worse when a MP4 file (or other formats too) are produced by PD13. Camera used: Panasonic HDC-TM55. Is there an editing technique available in PD13 to reduce or eliminate this problem. I have attached a video showing the problem. JohnT

Common problem, can you post the recording details you are using for the camera or the MediaInfo of a raw camera clip? The MP4 you attached is at 23.976fps which will make this issue worse as your recording format is probably NTSC, 29.97fps.

I'd look at the HA (17Mbps/VBR) (1920 x 1080) setting of your camera if you’re not using it and then using closer produce format to the actual recording format you are using. Inteligent SVRT in the Produce area of PD may give you an acceptable format. If not, the H.264, 1920x1080/60i (16Mbps) should be very close.

JohnTS, what was the result of the suggestion posted above? In my opinion that's probably your best chance for maintaining near recorded quality if you are happy with the bleachers horizontal line effects in pure off the camera footage. The Produce_0.mp4 changes format, much lower bitrate, none of which help the issue.

The setting on the camera that I was using is HA1920 which is supposed to be the best quality of my camera. The other settings are: HG1920, HX1920, and HE1920, all at 30p. The bleacher effect is on the original video from the camera and I guess there is nothing I can do about that.. short of buying a new camera. I though maybe there might be some editing feature in PD13 that would at least reduce that effect. JohnT

A progressive video recording as compared to an interlaced one would be the best in this situation. The moire effect is not eliminated in every situation and can be seen in this video where creating the moire effect is intentional: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn-TNQXl9KE .

Very interesting video. I think I've tried just about every option on my camera and PD13. I thought maybe it was just my camera but I get the impression that problem is more common than I thought. JohnT
