Louise,
it depends largely on what you intend to do with the video. For a DVD, 720x480 is the norm. For Blueray you might want any of the higher-definition choices. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Hi LouiseTopp ,
If I may ask, what are you producing the video for/for what purpose?
The choice you make is determined by the original video footage (whether you want to retain the same quality) and the purpose you're indenting it for.
Let us know and members here will be pleased to assist you.

Edit: Darn, Barry beat me... well I got distracted by being given some warm home made bread.

Hi LouiseTopp, Just so you know, Barry has quoted the 720x480 size to you and that's an NTSC, USA area. You're in a PAL location and the DVD frame size would be 720x576. This would be reflected in the selections offered to you in PowerDirector for a PAL location.
