Cyberlink Filing System - explanation

1.

Now with my clean install computer, I need to deal with the 'loose' Cyberlink files that were strangely in the Documents Library folder, and the My documents folder....but loose, not in any folder of their own. Please see attached picture and example.

  • Can you tell me what to do with these?

  • What are they?

  • Which bits go together? (there's more than appears in this snip)

  • Where do they go, and how should I put them there (in a folder of their own? or...)

2.

Because I seem rather clueless about the Cyberlink Filing System, can someone explain (in words of one syllable or less embarassed) the filing system.

  • a) When I download something from Directorzone, where should it go (yes, into downloads, but then what?)

  • Do I need to specify a certain folder for my downloads or, when 'clicked on' in downloads, or opened, does it go the right place automatically. (I ask this because of the loose files talked about above.)

  • b) do downloaded titles, pips, particles etc...go to different places?

  • c) what about fonts I download? ( I seem to have lost all my downloaded fonts )

  • d) Normal Cyberlink PowerDirector files - what is in what folders?

  • e) when I change an item, say a title, in PDR and 'save' it, do I need to specify a place to save it?

  • f) If these 'custom' items are automatically saved in a folder, which folder? Do different things custom particles, custom titles, get saved in different folders automatically?

  • g) dvd menus seem to be a bit different - when I make my own menus and save them, where are they saved?

  • h) are there any other Cyberlink folders, and if so, what's in them?

  • i) Are there any situations where I need to specify the saved folder, or are they all automatically saved in the correct places. (again asking due to the Q1 situation)

If someone could please answer my conundrum in Q1, then give me a comprehensive idea of what belongs where, I would be grateful.

Short answer.

All material created (personal) go to C:\Users\Your PC\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector\13.0

All downloaded material DierctorZone go to C:\Users\Public\CyberLink Copy and Paste the folder CyberLink from one PC to another add all the stuff on the new PC.

Note: If the new PC already contains installed effects, there may be overlap to folders (files) with the same name.

Windows reports and asks what you want to do.

Hi Jenny -

I always wondered why your avatar took so long to load in the forum pages. I've just found oot! It's 4320x3240 surprised The one attached will load instantly.

Also attached is as close as I can get to an explanation of where everything belongs. It's not complete because there are some things I don't have a clue about... like where downloaded presets for CDR & PhD are installed.

Sorry - I couldn't manage 1 syllable or less. Give our PM a call - he's good at that laughing

CyberLink has some odd filing system features which I just don't understand. An example of the unnecessary complexity of CL’s filing system is with PhotoDirector’s sample images and music. At C:\ProgramData\CyberLink\PhotoDirector there is one folder for each version of PhD I’ve ever had installed – each containing exactly the same files (i.e. 4 sets of duplicates)

Regarding your folder full of loose extras: PDR doesn't need them at all. It will run even if you trash the lot. Is there anything important there (i.e. to you)? If not, throw it away. If so, store the images, audio files etc wherever you want.

Cheers - Tony
