Prolems with rendering file sizes

Hi,

I am running some tests to see what video camera settings to use in my work. I have recorded a minute of video on 1920*1280/50 and 1080*720/25, pulled them into PowerDirector and produced them without any changes (the real work will have editing involved). I am saving as H.264 MP4 files. For some reason the 1920*1280/50 file comes down in size about 40% when rendered with the settings closest match to the recording settings - 1920*1280/25. When I do the same for the 1080*720/25 clip, the closest match to the video settings to render with are 1080*720/25. However this causes the file size to double - is this due to the bitrate and if so how do I change the settings? The same happens using all other settings too.

I dont want huge files for YouTube upload and on reading multiple confilicting website opioions decided 1080*720/25 is good enough recording quality for streaming on YouTube. However if PowerDirector is going to double the produced files then they come out bigger and using 1920*1280/50 quality clips. 1920*1280/50 quality clips are too large to easily work with on my PC - rendering a 22 minute video takes 2 hours. and I have several this size.

Help! can I change any settings in PowerDirector so I can use the 1080*720/50 recordings and save as smaller output files, or do I just need to use the big files in editing, put up with the long rendering time, and then compress the produced file with Handbrake before uploading to YouTube? Or, wuold it help to save the larger clips at the 720 production setting?

Smiles,

Laine

Sounds like bitrate. You can create a custom profile. I think it's a plus sign (+). You may also find one that will work under devices in produce.

Thanks,
I am doing some trials of all the variables in the settings area you noted, and lowering the bitrate is what is giving the smallest files with the best quality when playing via YouTube. Some of the files are still pretty big - 1.5gb for 22 minutes of video. Do you think that is too large still and should be compressed a little?

That sounds about right for HD video. Others might have a difcerent opinion. __________________________________
