Sideshow motion face recognition basically not working

So I set up a slideshow with around 230 20MP wedding photos - really clear, many posed, but the slideshow seems to not care about the faces! Each photo is set for five seconds - is this to quick? It can start at somones feet and make it to their chest and... next photo!

Also, is there any way to lower the movement in the slideshow pan/zoom - as the movements are often very wild. If I recall Windows Movie Maker has a nice subtle movement.

What I'm trying to do is a 20 minute slideshow of 230 ish wedding photos, each with about 5 seconds of screen time. All the wedding template files are so tacky and usable so the only other option I can see is the slideshow pan/zoom with detect faces.

Any help/input/thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers.

The motion can be changed for each image. While at the Preview stage, lower left button "Customize".

I had the same problem. I also try to have a minimum of 7sec per image. 7 seconds seems to be a good duration to allow people to pretty much see everything. CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Here I prefer to make photo slide manually, so I have control over the movement and zoom.

I select a group of photos (or all) on the line, Magic Tool button / Magic Motion / User Defined.

Adjust to a photo that will be applied the same for all selected photos.

As of PD 13 no slideshow functions have facial recognition. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

The option is there... are you saying the feature doesn't work? CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Joe - from the photos I've tested with "Detect Faces" selected in Motion & Highlight slideshow templates, it makes no observable difference... and particularly with traditional format static group wedding shots.

Barry & Zootles - maybe you're thinking of face recognition, as in PhD's face tagging. This is just "detection", as in notices there are faces.

Zootles - I agree with you about the extreme motion. You can make it more subtle by customising the motion path for each photo... and THAT'S why I prefer PlaySound's approach to making motion slideshows containing lots of photos. It's so much easier!

Select a bunch of photos (say every 3rd or 4th one). Go to Magic Motion & set a nice slow, subtle motion. OK. Next, repeat for a different group of photos with a slightly different motion path (but still slow & subtle). Keep going till motion is applied to every photo. Drop in transitions and you're done. Apply to all is easy, but results in a dead boring slideshow with exactly the same motion repeated 230 times.

Cheers - Tony

Yes, Tony, I was thinking of RECOGNITION. Words matter and I did not stick to the exact text of the question.
My sincere apologies to this thread.
That being said, most slideshows need tweaking by the user at some point, and PD makes it VERY easy. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Hi Barry -

There's no need to apologise. Have a look at the thread title: Sideshow motion face recognition basically not working

One's a typo but the other's a misnomer. You were simply following the OP's lead.

Cheers - Tony
