Fade Transitions Playing backwards

I placed Fade transitions between scenes/clips, but when played back, it fades into the second clip, then the first scene is shown quickly before going into the second one as it should

hard to explain. Any one had this happen? Any solution?

Shouldn't. Expand the timeline and confirm that there are no spaces between clips. Run the timeline without a fade. Does it "take" from clip to clip?
