I have been asked to add a "Tell us about your A/V equipment" feature by a member (jcardana). So members, here's an oportunity to write a review ("Tell us ...") about the A/V gear you use to record and then edit with PowerDirector.

Add your review with an image of the A/V item (so we know what you're using) to this thread.

The review can be text with images or even a streamed video, edited using PowerDirector (of course).

Have fun.

Dafydd

Canon PowerShot SX710 HS

I'm really impressed with this product and needed to share it with you.

I found it and B&H and I posted a review for this product at
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1110377-REG/canon_0109c001_powershot_sx710_hs_digital.html

I'm not a Pro at photography but I'm not a moron either. I needed something that would take 10+MP photos and HD video. My wife, wanted a simple "point and click". This camera is the best of both worlds. Especially if you're on a budget.

For less than $500 we got...

Canon PowerShot SX710 HS Digital Camera ~$330
Canon CANB6LHNB-6LH Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (3.7V, 1,060mAh) ~$45
SanDisk SAESD16GBU3Z 16GB Extreme UHS-I U3 SDHC Memory Card (Class 10) ~$14 (For Photos)
SanDisk SAESD64GBU3Z 64GB Extreme UHS-I U3 SDXC Memory Card (Class 10) ~$40 (For Videos)
An additional insurance plan ~$50

My Pros:
It's small and light. I love the fact I can take 20+MP photos at either 1:1, 3:2, 4:3 or 16:9 and video upto 16:9FHD (1920x1080 60fps). It has face recognition but the best part of that is I can store a face in the cam and it will tag photos. It can determine of a person is smiling and even if their eyes are closed. It recognizes if a baby is sleeping and won't make a shutter sound. I know... crazy! Best features for me... In case I loose my subject when zoomed in... there's a little button on the left side that will un-zoom as I hold it, then when I get my subject back in the frame, I release the button and the cam zooms back in. In "Sports" or "Action" mode, pressing and holding the shutter button will provide repeated photo captures. OK, so that only new to me.

My Cons:
Only a few so far...
It has a wrist strap and I prefer neck straps. The mics pick up the lens motion and they don't provide much stereo separation.

I've uploaded images to my website...

Normal Wide - No Zoom

30x Optical Zoom

60x Digital Zoom

120x Digital Zoom

I put together a little vid w/PD13... it's 136MB HTTP://www.anadrac.com/ForumPics/CyberLink/Demo.mp4
Note: The first place where is says 60x OptZoom is wrong... it's a digital zoom, sorry.

If you're interested... Get the MANUAL in pdf 25MB

Test to see if a video will stream. Here's jcardana's video.

Sony FDR-AX33

Sony FDR-AX33

I got this camera at B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1109387-REG/sony_hdr_ax33v_4k_ultra_hd.html

My main reason to get this camera is because my older one, a Canon Vixia HF21 was having a faulty microphone capturing a lot of static noise, much like in the era of analog TV when there wasn't a signal. I was already thinking on getting a 4K camera, but I couldn't afford the price of the FDR-AX100. Luckily, Sony anounced this year this FDR-AX33 model and I was watching it at that very moment, looking first impressions reviews. When it got released, I got it along with the following items:

Now, to the camera review:

The camera has stunning 4K quality. It record in AVCHD or XAVC S for 1080p video up to 60fps or XAVC S for 4K video at a resoluiton of 3820x2160p at 30fps. This camera has a very good image stabilizer, it also works in low-light conditions althougt it will generate some noise. Since the begining when I got this camera I record my footage in the 4K 100mbit/s format, and with the 256GB it can record a little more than 5 hours. The most I've recorded is 4 hours at a wedding which had a lot of activities. The included battery can record up to 2 hours, but with the external mic connected that goes down to 1 hour and 30 minutes. For this reason I got the inexpensive Wasabi batteries which gives up to 3h:30m both and with the mic it goes down to 3 hours each, which is double of what the bundled battery gave me. I've recorded talent shows, weddings and quinceañeros and they all came with an outstanding quality. In PowerDirector, I have to enable Shadow files in order to edit effectively, then I export the videos in 4K XAVC S at 200mbit/s in a custom preset I made. The camera has intelligent modes and it detects faces, spotlights, low-light condition, and more. This detection is shown by displaying a symbol and it guarantees the best quality.

Here are some videos I recorded and edited with PowerDirector and this camera:

The camera unboxing video (This one I recorded with a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge also in 4K quality:

My editing hardware:

I have a laptop, the Lenovo Y510p which have an Intel i7-4700MQ (2.4Ghz), 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4600 and 2x Nividia Geforce 750M, but I have the Nvidia cards deactivated in the BIOS since I find that the Intel Graphics gives me better performance.

SONY FDR RX100 4K camcorder, Panasonic DMC-G3

i7 920, 12GB, GTX960

Using PD13 and editing in 4K works well, including 90min videos but only with shadow files (Wish the generation would be faster.)

At the time camera was V1 now updated to V3, greatly improving stabilization and auto focus.

China movie

All shots are on auto, having no sun because of incredible polution was a handicap

-----------------------------------------------

Started in 1950 with a 35mm still camera, in 1954 went to color 8mm then the sequence of super eight, adding a magnetic stripe for sound and of course s8 with magnetic sound. In those days the cost of 1 minute of edited film was about $2

And those were 1960 Dollars!!!!

1975 saw VHS, a shoulder carried recorder and battery with attached 5" cable and camera. Followed by VHS-C, Super VHS and super 8MM by Sony.

2005 had me using the Sony HDR-HC1 ( at $2000.00) a WOW moment even though resolution was only 1440x1080. Then followed cameras with hard drive and now SD. The best video camera before the AX100 was the Panasonic X900M with incredible resolution when used in 60P mode and a total absense of artifacts due to the 3 sensor design.

Also editing using two tape recorders, the final product was always 2nd or 3rd generation. First pc editing about 15 years ago using Pinnacle software, finally allowing 1st generation quality.

Sometimes I look at my old videos, not too bad as long as you watch from a great distance or a 16" screen.

We have come a long way! From 230.000 pixels (VHS) to 8 000.000 (UHD)

Nothing hi-tech here. Two GoPro 3+ in a 3d Hero housing. I use a Tascam DR-07 to record audio and shoot alternate video with a Canon HF R100 and a few older cameras. The 3D video gets processed first in GoPro Studio. Everything else goes straight to PD.

i7-2600 16GB RAM, 3 disks.
- 3 FlipCams
- GoPro Camera
- Sony PJ camcorder. (Nice little camera!)
- tried using external mics, but they always seem to record audio at a slighter slower speed, causing serious audio-video alignment issues, so I just stick with the audio from the video cameras instead. (Any suggestions for a quality audio recorder that doesn't have the audio/video synching issue I described?)

Been using PD since release 2011.

Like JCardana, my wife & I use Canon compacts - a Powershot SX260 & a Powershot SX600.

We got tired of hauling SLR's & video cameras around when out mountain biking, skiing or walking.

I agree with JCardana that they do the job well in terms of photos and videos. However, when editing, either in Powerdirector or Photodirector, we've noticed that the lenses aren't perfect. For the price & for holiday memories etc, they're just the job.

What we have done (we've only had Powerdirector, PhotoDirector and Colour Director for a few months) is to set up a custom preset that applies itself to every photo on import to PhD. This sharpens the images & reduces a bit of noise too. Further tweaking can take place after import as required.

Cyberstudio

I was going to shot a video for this, but my Gear Page is probably just as good.
My main video cameras are all Canons and record full HD 1920x1080 at 60i. The Olympus shoots HD lite (720p).
Of course there are numerous light stands, backdrops and sand bags that fill out my needs, but they are not included here.
To see my lighting and audio equipment you might wish to visit my site.
Please feel free to ask my anything about my gear, there is more shown in this link. My Gear page
