I'm attempting to capture a video from a DVD. The DVD is a wide screen, HD video. When I capture into PD 12, the result always comes out 720 X 480. The original is 30 fps NTSC.

What is the result if you copy the DVD's VOB files to your hard disk...and load those files into PD?

If it is a "normal" DVD, then it is not HD at all. All normal DVD discs are standard definition by design, the files will be vobs.
If it is an AVC-HD DVD disc, playable only with a Blueray player, then the files will be HD quality.
As for "Capture", that is the incorrect method/terminology.
To grab the files put the disc in the drive, browse to it, and copy the files to your hard drive.
If it is only a data disc, with no menu, holding only the actual files as data, then the files might be HD.

The dvd has the vob files and is wide screen, 16 X 9.

I'll try copying the vob file to PD this afternoon.

By the way, this is not a commercial DVD.

If it is indeed vob(s), then they are standard definition by technical design. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

OK,

The original dvd is 16 X 9 aspect ratio. When i bring it into PD, the horizontal size is squeezed for a 4 X 3 ratio.

Can I bring the file into PD with a 16 X 9 aspect ratio?

Set your Powerdirector Project aspect ratio to 16:9.

If you get a warning pop-up ignore it or Cancel. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Carl's suggestion did not work. Rt clicking and setting the aspect ratio to 16X9 corrected the problem.
