Timeline continually freezing

My big problem is with the computer continually FREEZING whenever I try to scrub the timeline either forward or backward through just two or three minutes of footage. I then have to sit, frustrated, for two or three minutes each time, waiting for the program to recover and resume playing. Often when it does resume, the audio plays but neither the timeline nor the preview window moves for some minutes after. For every one hour spend editing I would regularly waste forty minutes simply waiting for the computer to recover. After much persistence and frustration I eventually succeed and produce some very satisfactory DVD recordings.

I have set my preview window at "Normal", disconnected my Internet cable and have very few other software programs installed on my purpose built "CyberLink ready" computer (see specs below). Reading through the CyberLink Community Forum hasn't helped as it seems that nobody else has experienced my problem. I desperately hope that there is someone out there who can provide some suggestions to help me defeat that nasty little man inside my computer that is working tirelessly against me!

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Processor: Intel(R) Core i7-4790K CPU 4.00GHz 4.00GHz Memory (RAM): 16.0GB Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti Total Memory 4022 MB Video recordings are 25 FPS (PAL), being either early SD or current HD.

This sounds very frustrating, and kudos to you for being so patient! I'm sure we can help figure out what's going on with your system as it sounds pretty much unusable to me!

Although you've posted your HW specs, please read the top-most sticky thread on the PD13 forum (Welcome to the ...) and reply with parts A, B and J. Your system should perform very well with all HD media, and posting the technical details will help us figure out where to look.

I too am suffering a very similar condition as the OP. My system is an Asus G750JH i7-4700HQ , 16gb ram, GTX780M. with Win8.1

I only bought the machine in April this year and the only program i run is PD13.

I have spent literally hours and hours editing or trying to edit a set of clips from an expedition and have got just 6 minutes of video processed so far.

After about 15-20 minutes of working reasonably well it grinds to a slow pace and the sound but no video playback issue occurs with me also. I find if i quit the program and reload it free's it up.

I have preloaded a number of short video clips. each only 5-6 seconds long usually that I am then trying to drag to the timeline and edit.

To be honest i am rather disappointed with the time taken to produce a video file compared to moviemaker that i was running on my 3 year old i3 with just 4gb ram and onboard graphics. As much as the PIP, masking and motion effects are really great the time taken to produce is making me consider switching back to microsofts freebie.

I will load my dxdiag files also and see what you can come up with.

Thanks

I don't see anything in the DxDiag results that jumps out as a problem. Your nVidia driver is a little out of date but I don't think your issues are with the graphics driver. In fact, an even earlier driver (*344.65*) will give you 30% faster production times.

What version of PD13 are you running? Have you tried the most recent patch (released yesterday)?

For the media info in part J, you can just attach a sample clip to your next post. If the clip is larger than 30MB, the forum won't accept it but you can post a link to it on OneDrive or DropBox and people can get the details and test it on their systems.

According to the Gigabyte support page for your *motherboard*, there are two newer BIOS updates and you may want to download and flash the latest one if you're comfortable doing that.

Mark, although your situation is similar, it's fairly likely that your situation stems from a different underlying problem and it would help if you started a new thread by posting the info requested of OP in my last post. Please keep an eye on both threads but we may branch out in a totally different direction based on what your DxDiag results are.

Sorry, I omitted to say that I am using PowerDirector Ultimate 13.0.2604.0

SR number: VDE150123-01

I have ticked the box "Automatically check for software updates" so I expect to soon see a notification appear at the bottom of my screen when I next open the program

In my current 80 minute editing headache I am using four different file types on the same timeline track, being: (1) M2T Type MPEG-2 (99% of video) then about two minutes or less of inserts of (2) mp4 Type H.264 AVC (3) AVI Type DV-AVI (4) JPEG (30 second clip art for title). Perhaps the system objects to this mixture of file types on the same timeline, although I eventually burnt a most satisfactory DVD of the production (a theatre-stage debate: "Real Books Vs E-Books").

I have a similar issue with PD13. I initially had issues with PD12 but you guys updated and all the issues went away. I have loaded on 3 machines Dell Latitude 6320 and video card could not run on Titler program but I had 16gigs of memory. I said let me use another machine that I have and its 6510 and it could run the Titler but still buggy on the timeline. I said well let me purchase a New Dell Alienware 17 R2 and issues continue with locking up on the timeline and also Timeline locking up on Transitions freezing then the sound eventually catches up. I don't think its my machine.

I just downloaded the newest UPdate 2907 and it has not helped. I think it has made the locking up worse. Its taking too long to render videos.

I just purchased My AlienWare on 5-20-2015 and created on video on 2604 update and now im working on another video on 2907.
Nividia driver 352.86
I have I7 quad Processor, 16gigs or memory. My video Card is Nividia 970M with 3gigs GDDR2
