Where are these file formats?

I have seen these process options available to other people who have owned the software in YouTube videos.

Are these file formats not an option in the trial version of the program?

Hi Soullithan

Welcome to the forum

There are quite a few limitations with the 'process' options. Check out the limited importing and producing options in the link below:

http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/trials/powerdirector-ultra/download_en_US.html?affid=2581_1123_290_12411_0_ENU_powerdirector-ultra

I believe your file type preference is one of them.

In the full versions MP4/MPEG4 is an option. Happing editing

Best Regards

Hey,

Thanks for the fast reply.

After looking into the problem further, I discovered that H.264 is basically the new MP4. So I'm assuming that Cyberlink released a software update for PD13, that removed MP4 and replaced it with the file format H.264.

The H264 codec is not new for PowerDirector, the H265 codec is.

See image for option and how to select either in the full version.

Thanks for the reply.

What I meant was that I saw in earlier versions of PD, MP4 used to be one of the big grey buttons in the same place H.264 AVC is currently sitting in that screenshot. It seems to have been replaced and moved to a drop-down box, I did not know they had drop-down menus.

But it raises another question.

I'm using recording software to capture content on my screen in MP4 (Nvidia Nvenc), 1920x1080p @ 60fps.

If I wanted to get the best results for online video (YouTube, Facebook) which file format would I choose?

I would use the online feature to directly upload, but I want the finished product in a post-rendered file.

Hi Soullithan -

The produce buttons were re-arranged in PDR 13 because now we have more choice. We can render to MPEG-4 using the AVC H.264 codec or HEVC H.265. Before PDR 13, there weren't any dropdown menus attached to the produce buttons.

Your screen capture software would probably not be using the H.265 codec, so it would be best to produce using AVC H.264

If you use the Produce > Online > YouTube option, you will get a rendered video file saved to your hard drive, but it will be WMV, which is good for streaming and (usually) saves disc space. What PDR does is produce the WMV, then uploads it to YouTube (or FaceBook or whatever option you've chosen.

Cheers - Tony

A number of additional pointers.
1. A video editor should aim to maintain the maximum quality (matching) of the original captured video until the point of production.
2. Output is a choice, display content to a viewer in the best possible resolution. mp4, mp4.....
3. Upload to a streaming website, conform to the hosts minimum/maximum specifications, you'd need to check what those are possibly.
4. YouTube may like 720p mp4 (best of all rather than 1080p) while Facebook maybe ok with 1080p. Remember the bitrate (in your produced video) can have a profound effect on both quality and file size (to upload), choose wisely.
5. You can not upload to YT via PowerDirector with an mp4 file.
6. The PowerDirector YT upload uses a lower res wmv that may not display your screen captured video crisply.
7. Lastly, you can create your own production profile using what CyberLink offer and changing them to suit or you can tweak the Profile.ini file yourself. The tweaking of the Profile.ini may be a stage too far at this time. Remember you can ask on the forum for more info on Profile.ini tweaking later.

I hope the additional information helps. I'd go the 720p mp4 route for YT.

Dafydd

I produce the source material with H.264 AVC now, just to make sure I get 1080p and also the 60fps feature on YouTube.

One issue that I am having though is that after the upload, the audio gain on the video takes a big hit.

The video isn't as loud as the file before upload. That is something after researching online - I cannot find a solution for.

There may be nothing you can do about what YouTube does to your video and sound after you upload. YouTube re-renders every video uploaded.

Did you did check the produced video before you uploaded. The audio level may not be the same in the produced video as the play on the timeline. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

I fixed the audio problem.
It was an issue with Google Chrome itself, I had to put a line of text in Chrome's properties to tell the browser to output audio in 5.1.

So, Facebook recommends:

  • H.264 video with AAC audio in MOV or MP4 format

  • An aspect ratio no larger than 1280px wide and divisible by 16px

  • A frame rate at, or below, 30fps

  • Stereo audio with a sample rate of 44,100hz

When PowerDirector 13 Produces for Facebook with the "HD Quality 1280x720" profile, it's generating a file with:

  • WMV3 video with WMA audio in WMV format

  • 1280x720

  • A frame rate of 29.97

  • Stereo audio with a sample rate of 48,000hz

and then it presumably uploads that file to Facebook.

The video certainly plays on Facebook, but it's a little blurry and the audio certainly isn't as good as the original.

Can you choose or build a profile that will get better quality out of Facebook?

(Sorry this is so spread out vertically, but this is what I get, without any double paragraph breaks. Is there a way to make it more compact?)
