Hello any experts who can help!
I have tried out the trial version of Cyber Director7 today and once I got going it was ok, I'm used to Windows Movie Maker so it wasn't too bad. I want to produce a good quality video but in a smaller size than the test videos I created today. I want to upload videos to a software company (Talk Fusion) and they have a limit of 100mb so told me to try to produce in windows media. They said the videos I produced (about 6 minutes) shouldn't be file sizes of around 130mb which they always were with Movie Maker. I looked at streaming MWV and there are loads to choose from so have no idea which one would be best? If anyone could explain what mpeg format is as well I would be grateful - these are the areas that totally confuse me. The 2 videos I produced today (just over 4minutes)using same project came out at: MPEG2 - 180mg and type Video clip was 864mb!
I will also want to produce some videos to burn onto a DVD so which format is best for that?
Would really appreciate some advice.

Just a thought. Try to render your project in the "Divx" profile/codec (in the "Create a File" tab). I use this for my uploads to Youtube. For instance, one of my projects was 168MB when rendered/produced in Mpeg2, but rendered in Divx it was now 79Mb.
For me, Divx seems to be a good balance between lower file sizes and still maintaining decent video quaility, for the purposes of uploading videos where the site has a limit on the size of files they will accept.

You could also convert your video to FLV, but you'll need to research that.
(a free FLV convertor is available on the SMWOV site that is associated with this forum)

As for burning to DVD, I'll let the other far more knowledgeable folks here advise you, as I rarely burn my stuff to DVD.

Dear Cranston,
Thanks for that but I went into create a file (after clicking produce) and the options were .avi/mpeg1/mpeg2/portablempeg4/AVCMpeg4. I couldn't find"divx" within any of these options so am still stick. Help!!!

You need to have the DivX codec installed independently on your PC before PD can utilise it.

The simplest way to create a DVD compliant disc is to use the create disc module. You can either choose to create a HDD folder or burn directly to DVD.

OK, my Power Director 6 came with the Divx codec already installed (and as I said has worked great for my uploads to Youtube). But when I upgraded to PD7, the Divx codec was "not" included for some reason. So "pjc" is right, I indeed had to independently download the Divx codec to have it appear in PD again. Sorry for the confusion Angie, I just totally forgot about having to take that step, as I was used to always having had Divx as one of my producing option. (old age is creeping in on me Angie, hahaha)
There are many places you can get the Divx codec, but I'm almost positive that I downloaded mine at this link...

However... if you "don't" want to add Divx to your arsenal, you could also choose Produce > Create a "Streaming" File > scroll down to for instance..."Windows Media 9 for Local Area Network (768K)".
This is one of the standard streaming format for like when one wants to attach a video to an email. Of course "streaming quality" is a step down in quality. But you might experiment with the various streaming options and qualities there, to find the best balance of quality and file size that is acceptable to you.

Again, sorry for the confusion about the missing Divx. I'm not sure why it wasn't included in PD7 like it was in PD6. Perhaps it has been restored in one of the the latest updates/builds for PD7. Click here PDtoots for a collection of PowerDirector Tutorials and Tips
