Hi all,

Is there a simple way to extend a 30 second audio track to let's say...1.5 minutes? Can I splice it together to extend it? If so, what is the best way to do that?

Thanks! - Jim

The simple way to repeat the audio clip two more times is to place the clip 3 times end to end on the timeline. If you have problems, do it in the storybook view.

Hi Tom,

I have put the audio end to end but it does not sound professional. I thought there would be a way to extend music to hide the fact that you were replaying the same clip.

Sorry if I expect too much out of this software. I thought it was just me not knowing what to do. Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim -

It's not expecting too much of the software, but the particular audio clips you're using may not "splice" smoothly when you butt them up together.

You could try inserting an audio transition between them or fading one out as the other fades in, or before it fades in. That might make the transition more palatable.

Cheers - Tony

I have done this on several occasions, and it does take a little effort.
Take your music selection and place it in an audio timeline. Then do it again, in a second timeline, further "down the road".
It's best to add an audio-only timeline so the 2 clips can be seen close to each other.
Wait for the wave form to appear, and then look for patterns in the music to overlap the 2 clips matching those patterns as best you can.
Generally I use the first 3/4 of the first clip, and cut out (remove) only the first 1/4 of the second clip, leaving the final 3/4. Try to overlap somewhere in there.
In the end, I usually only have a few notes overlap each other, but the transition can be quite smooth, perhaps using audio fades can help.
NOTE: Are you using a particular clip you simply MUST have? Are you familiar with Smartsound/Magic Music, the music module that is included with PowerDirector?
Magic Music can be made to any length you need, with a complete beginning and end for a full sounding audio piece.

You have to expand the waveform, and listen carefully when trimming the music. It can be time consuming. I've done it with programs other than PD. .

Hi all,

Thanks for all the replies!

I will try to get a full cup of coffee in the morning and play with this again, using some of your suggestions.

Yes, I looked at Smartsound/Magic Music but did not like the 38 free offerings. I guess you get what you pay for, as they say.

I started with Barry's suggestion and now have better results. Thank you!

Previously, I had put the music in the same track, end to end. This sounded like a 5-year-old had done the editing.

I am still going to play around with the other ideas. Thank you all once again.

For us "newbies," editing can get frustrating. Sometimes it's just those little suggestions that you can't find in any book that makes a world of difference!

I do all my audio manipulation with 'Audition' but I have also used 'Audacity' (a freebie and very good ) in the past. Once you've got your audio as you want it it's easy to drop it into your project on an audio timeline. Just another possibility smile

p.s. you can also extract audio from existing video footage and work on it before re-inserting it.
