Ever since Windows 8 was released, there is this trend among various software developers to flatten every aspect of the UI. Unfortunately, this is not every time a good thing, because sometimes the results are not as good as expected.
UI transition from Power2Go 9 to Power2Go 10 has much improvements, but in case of PowerDVD 15, few extra features alone may appeal to many users, including myself.
I was expecting this release so I can upgrade my PowerDVD 14 version included in MediaSuite 12, just to be able to use PowerDVD as a media server, but $70 for an upgrade to a less nice interface and only a few extra features makes me wait, while regretting that I didn't buy a full extra license of PowerDVD 14 Ultra while I could, which was cheaper anyway.
So, what more could we expect from PowerDVD, you may ask?
Well, in terms of features, they may not have much to add, at least for now. PowerDVD 14 was already a great release.
But, in terms of functionality, I was expecting they will build the same products of a particular class that may be used by the same person, in such a way to make you feel that they are belonging to the same owner.
To be more specific, let's have my own example: I have PowerDVD 14 Ultra along with other utilities (PowerDirector, MediaEspresso etc.) on my PC (location 1) and on my laptop. I also have these applications on another PC (location 2) as part of MediaSuite.
What I expected: settings and setup for PowerDVD and other applications to syncronise themsleves if needed, especially when using Cyberlink Cloud.
What I got instead:
- I had to redo settings on each location, even after reinstalling the software;
- I had to (re- ) tag faces on pictures on each location, even if I have the same pictures on the same path, synced by OneDrive;
- PowerDVD from MediaSuite doesn't have the ability to use Cyberlink Cloud, because if this wasn't included in the package as an offer, they assume the user don't use or didn't purchase Cyberlink Cloud separatelly or as a bunlde with another product.
That, my friends, is the kind of functionality I expected to be implemented in a 'next-gen' release of this kind.
I am waiting for your opinions also.
