Do I understand Pack Project???

When I pack a project in a particular folder, it is my understanding that all audio and all video files (jpg, whatever used) will be saved in that folder with the pds file.

So I can delete those files from other folders with no risk to the final product.

Just want to be positive on this before I start deleting duplicates all over my drive.

Yes, you can delete other files, however, my preference is to copy-paste my packed project into my source file folder, and overwrite the existing.
What that does is combine my packed project materials along with any media files I did not use.
This is important to know...packed projects do not copy files from the library, only the ones actually used in the timelines.
I'm looking for a PDToots tutorial on this, but it eludes me. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Question:

If I used Pack Project materials to archive my efforts, am I right in thinking I'll only be able to access the files if I still have PowerDirector installed?

I've no plans to leave PowerDirector but coming back in maybe 10 or 15 years, things may well have changed, so I assume without PD you certainly would have lost the edit, but would you even be able to access the clips, stills and audio etc?

Thanks

The files will be intact, and I wager you'll be able to open the PDS for editing in PD28+- HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Since you created the project in Powerdirector you would need Powerdirector to re-edit the project as it was when you archived it.

The source file is in the Pack Project Materials folder, so you could ignore the PDS file and edit the source file in any video editor.
